Viper stripe disaster.

Thought I'd be clever and try putting some viper stripes on my car ready for the trip to Le Mans

It was all going so well until I tried to go over the bonnet scoop and made a pig's ear of it all by creasing the vinyl...

I'm going to have another go at making it more presentable later in the week and if I get anywhere I'll put up some pictures. Otherwise, they'll be coming off and I'll just stick with the visor and door stickers that our group are arranging. Hope I'm not posting back here to tell you that I've peeled a layer of paint off...

Apparently the trick to applying stickers/vinyls is to cover the area in soapy water first. That gives you a chance to slide them around a bit and avoids creasing. Once the water dries off they stick themselves on as normal.

I tried that, and it worked well for the flat bits. The difficulty was at the edge of the scoop, where the stripe simply wouldn't bend in three dimensions and stay in line. I've ended up doing it in sections, but it looks a bit amateurish!

What I should have done is to leave a larger space between the two stripes, thereby avoiding the awkward bonnet anatomy.

I think a V8S bonnet (and definitely a late-style S4 bonnet) would be much easier.

I had a similar nightmare yesterday! It was really windy and even with 2 of us we gave up after 3 times getting just 2ft up the bonnet. We were going up the bonnet to the side of the air in take. Stickering scheme is somewhat simplified now, but still looking good. Will post some pic's when I get a chance.

Mine wasn't on long enough to stick too much but if you have difficulty getting yours off warm it gently with a hair dryer first

Geoff, that looks pretty cool.

I've seen a couple before with the stripes, but didn't like the look, but I think the big TVR in the middle makes the difference. It breaks it up a bit.

Are you going to leave it stickered up for S Club?

I bought 4m of 'short term' viper stripes from here:

I'm no expert, but I think most of these places will do custom logos and vinyl stickers to order.

I'm not convinced about stripes either but I have to say that looks like a pretty neat job. It looks even better if you resize the picture.
