Where can I find date of manufacture on a v8s

Is there a plate or something in the vehicle documentation that staes the date of manufacture. I am not interested in the first registration date. I am looking to import a vehicle and I can get by safety restrictions if the vehicle is greater than 15 years old.

Year codes

G 1986, H 1987, Jj 1988, K 1989, L 1990, M 1991, N 1992, P 1993, R 1994.

So from the right hand end of the VIN number you should have 3 numbers signifying build number, 3 numbers for model code, a letter for plant code and then the letter for year code - that is your kiddy, assuming first date of registration is too late ? Plate is in engine bay on upper wing section, UK nearside.

I can't get to mine at the mo as its dark, chucking it down and her car is parked in front of the garage and she is out with the keys.

For 15 years old you need something built prior to May 1993 I guess ? Is this a rolling date in Canada or a fixed date.

V8S production numbers are officially listed as 208 / 1991, 173 / 1992, 29 / 1993, 2 / 1994. So you stand a good chance of getting one within the time frame you require.

Have you a particular vehicle in mind ? If so I guess its fairly late in the run and the date of first reg is too late for the cut-off ?

I'll have a look at mine tomorrow, but don't assume anything including the date will be right. It is a TVR after all

There is a 1994 TVR v8s for sale on the classifieds so I suspect it was built in 93 as it was first registered in early 1994. The date is rolling so I could buy it store it for a little while and then ship it and have it here for next year. I have plenty of friends and relatives in the UK so storing for a bit of time is an option.

On this note is there any way of telling the build number of a V8? ie # 200 of 400?

I checked my friends s2 last night. The date of manufacture is on the drivers side door on a plate.


I'm not sure about build number. The vin is as follows.

S 01 Country of Origin
D 02 Manufacturer eg A = Audi, Mitsubishi, Range Rover, American Motors, Sterling
L 03 Manufacturer 3-8 can denote model
D 04 Manufacturer 3-8 can denote body type, Car line,

S 05 Manufacturer 3-8 restraint system, engine,
C 06 Manufacturer
4 07 Manufacturer
P 08 Manufacturer usually engine
O 09 Check Digit
R 10 Model Year
A 11 Assembly Plant
O 12 Car serial number
1 13 Car serial number
1 14 Car serial number
2 15 Car serial number
4 16 Car serial number
0 17 Car serial number
