I drained and refilled my cooling system with anti-freeze/summer coolant a couple of weeks ago (ready for the long hot summer!!) as the system was only filled with water. I have now noticed some nice green spots of coolant weeping from the heater valve (control arm pivot).

I am thinking of replacing it, but on the alternative spares list all it says is a similar one is fitted to the Audi 80/90.

Has anybody replace the heater valve and if so what item did you use and where from.

I haven't replaced mine, but a collegue who has worked at a VW dealer, had peeked under the bonnet and told me it's the same as found on VW Golf mk1/Jetta or Passat mk1 (probably the same parts bin as Audi 80 of the same era).

Many thanks Chris.

I have taken the plunge and bought one of the Buy-it now options. Having looked at mine this morning the leak is now a constant drip.

The ones on ebay are slightly different to the one fitted to my S2, (the actuating arm is vertical on mine). It should fit though as it is still operating at 90 degrees to the water flow.

It looks like it will fit to me - mine also has a vertical lever.
I don't know about yours but mine has no support other than the pipes and the operating cable.

Chris
Sounds like yours is the same as mine. I will post a reply after I have, or have not as the case may be, fitted it to let you know how it went.

If it fits and has a part number I will include that so that it could be added to the alternative parts list.

New Heater Valve arrived today smile (VW Golf Mk I & GTI). It fitted and works a treat, just had to enlarge the cable attachment hole to accept the old cable fitting. I did drop, and lose, the cable clamp spring though rolleyes, and had to resort to using a cable tie! Still works well.

So if anyone needs to replace their heater valve, the VW Golf MkI fits OK. Unfortunately the valve I bought had no part number, so I cannot help with the alternative parts list.
