S1 missing on one cylinder
Discussion
The engine had been running rough for a few days so I thought I would do a proper investigation.
As it turns out it is missing on No5 cylinder. It is not electrical as I went through all the checks and the problem stayed with that cylinder.
Spoke to a few people about it and they mentioned it may be a blocked or faulty injector.
Now this is the mechainal kind on the 2.8, but having problems getting the injector out. Seems to be a metal flange held in place with a screw that stops the injector turning/unscrewing. Is this right?
How do the injectors come out?
I am getting fuel to the line as I cracked the bolt on the metering head and it is getting fuel to there.
Going to try compression test to see if gasket/ring/valve is to blame too.
Just realy having difficulty working out if I need to remove that little metal tab first before the injector comes out.
Any help would be most greatful

Will the hoses swap over?
On the 2.8 all the injectors are running all the time - its how much fuel is pumped through that varies, so swapping injector hoses over won't matter, either at the pump or injector end.
Are you absolutely definate that you haven't got a duff plug or lead?
If its electrical the plug should be wet with fuel when you take it out - if its the injector etc it should be dry.
I found this if its of any use

Have you tried just removing the plug and lying it on top of the plenum and turn the engine over ? you will see the spark OK (or not???) and should be able to assess if fuel is coming out of the spark plug hole.
presumably you have also tried swapping leads over (both ends obviously
) to see if the problem moves to another cylinder ?
and have you checked the dissy contact is not burnt out or tracking/cracked ?
I agree it does sound like a duff plug/lead/dissy contact
good luck

)Although I've had a bit of a camshaft disaster the rest of the engine is bloody good, the cylinders are perfect with no wear all, the crank on the journals I've measured with a micrometer at various points has no wear either so far, so with a new cam and a bit of a fettle it should be, er, interesting.
If only I had a licence....

Hi James, I agree re double checking the spark first and I would definitely also do a compression test first, it would be pointless getting through to the injectors if a valve has gone. It could however be an injector although I am told that these earlier type are pretty reliable. Bit of a pain to get at as all that plenum has to come off. Dont think it would be a good idea to try swapping the injector pipes on a Jetronic over, they are formed to shape and if you damage one it would be serious. To take an injector out you do need to take the small metal plate off, the injectors should then just pull out. In practice a bit of corrosion will often hold then in and you may need to pull with a Mole grip to get them. 3 of mine were **** to get out. The injector should come out with a donut shaped O ring at the bottom, it might also come out complete with a black plastic housing, just make sure it all goes back undamaged.
Have tried replacement dizzy cap, swapping leads over, putting in new plug. Spark test is fine at end of lead and plug. The problem remains with the same cylinder no matter what I swap over. The plug is comming out dry where the rest are light brown.
Compression test next to see what state that is in then act on what I find. Will try a little oil down cylinder to see if its a ring too.
Didn't check to see if fuel was comming out of hole when took plug out though. Was chuffing nicely though!
Looks like it will be strip off inlet side and see whats what I think, oh joy!
