Best place to buy Fan Belt for S3

Any ideas for the best place to purchase a fan belt S3? Any body close to me, I live in north Wiltshire, Swindon area.

I believe it is either:

Auto Delta DB 1200BC
Quinton Hazell QBB 1200
Motorquip[ VFB 609
Gates 6228 MC

Belt original fitted was F.A.I Auto 13AV 1200 Goodyear.

took mine off took it in to measure it

The 1200 in the spec refers to length, any motor factor should have it as it is quite a common size and if a 1200 came off then any other 1200 should be OK on length.
Slight word of caution if this is read by other S owners, as I discovered there is more than one crankshaft pulley for the Ford engines and as many S's will have had the engine changed the original 1200 belt may not now be the perfect length. If you can still read the belt on your car then just check if it is a 1200, if it isn't then note the length number so that if it breaks (and you will then lose it!) you know which length to get.

...and make sure the alternator bracket is adjusted so the new belt doesn't cut into the water hose right next to it!

Nice to see you again at last months meet. I got my replacement fanbelt from Motorsave at the west Swindon centre (i.e. nr the Link centre in Swindon). Tel: [phone]. Just ring in with the code for your last one and they'll get you a replacement. There is also a branch in Wootton Bassett which may be more convenient for you.

Just took Quinten Hazel code to Halfords, they had one there for me the next day it was a Gates 6228MC (10 x 1200)

Thanks guys for all your help, when not a motor mechanic, you soon learn very fast! It is a steep learning curve!!! Oh so much more to learn!!! Now I know the general size of S3 fan belt - 1200!
Good to see you too Ralph, the other day, had the motor checked over yesterday by the guy who owns Sawmills Garage in Lyneham. He is happy to source and fit the belt for me. Great place for the MOT when ever you need it - £40.00

Make sure its the same width as well, if its too narrow it will sit lower in the pulley and may seem too long as a result... 10 mm or 13 mm ????

K
