Can you buy back the remains from the insurance company - selling the front indicators alone should pay for a foreign holiday!!!

if you got rear ended the onus is on the other parties insurance to pay for the damage .
i remember someone having a similar problem and were being told the car is a right off but he argued it wasn't his fault and therefore wanted the car repaired ,
he was succesfull ,hopefully someone else will have more details so don't give up stick the boot into the insurance company

There's a company (can't remember) on the griff / chim forum that will often be able to repair where others write off as they are very reasonable. Worth asking on there.

Spotted this today in the Telegraph (I know, I know middle aged middle clas etc etc etc ) which might be useful.

A delivery vehicle reversed into my wife's car while she was stationary. She saw it coming, hung on to the horn, checked the rear mirror and went into reverse - but too late. A nearby pedestrian dashed over, checked she was all right, had a word with the delivery driver and provided all his witness details. No arguments, only apologies. The delivery driver acknowledged his error and I wrote to my wife's insurer, as is required by the policy, but made it plain she was not making an insurance claim. She was pursuing the driver and/or his employers since he was on company business. I then wrote to the company and the driver making it clear that my wife was claiming for her vehicle to be put back into the condition it was in before impact (11 years old but perfect). I notified them of the repairer we would use: a father-and-son local family business with a long history and well known for excellence. I was then asked by my wife's insurer to take the car to their "approved repairer" for assessment for the records. I did and the price quoted was £2,500. Her insurer then told me the cost exceeded the value of the car and they would pay only its value. I responded, telling them we were not claiming through them, but were pursuing the guilty party, through the Small Claims Court if necessary. I then received a telephone call from my wife's insurer telling me "this is not the way it works". I made it clear that it was the way it works for me, put the phone down and later changed insurer. But this was not the end. My chosen repairer quoted £1,300 for a first-class job (new bonnet and headlights etc) and I passed this on to the delivery company. A director of the company told me he would have no more contact with me - the matter was in the hands of his insurer. I wrote once more: "Repairs commence in seven days. Pay up or I will, and then see you in court." The company's insurer then wrote to my repairer agreeing to pay in full less the £100 excess that my wife had on her policy. I told my repairer to get on with the job and, if there was a £100 shortfall, I'd pay it and see the other party in court. I rang the company's insurer, made my position quite clear and was told that they'd written to the repairer after consultation with my wife's insurer. I made my position absolutely clear to them yet again, no room for doubt, and my repairer was paid in full.

Gary,

I remember speaking to you at S Club and you were so happy/enthusiastic about your car. Real shame mate.

Might be worthing checking as above and seeing if you can save it, if you want to of course - I've previously had a damaged car repaired and never felt the same about it afterwards....

Good luck whatever you choose to do wink

People,

Thanks for the messages of support.

The deal i have from the insurance company is actually very good and I also persued and recieved payment for out of pocket expenses and loss of enjoyment.

However a nice cheque just isnt the same as having my TIV in the garage.

The damage is quiet bad at the rear and I feel the same as longers once damaged it wont be the same.

Im sure however someone better at engineering than me can grt her back to her orginal condition.

I will mourn for a little longer and begin the search again, perhaps a V8S this time ??????

Cheers Gary

Sorry to hear that...

It was a few years ago....

But RichardR was rear ended in his S... full recovery and rebuild..

You can see from the pics, quite a bit of damage, IIRC, it was also written off, but he bought it back, got it done as new..

Don't give up hope..

Here are the pics of Richards car...

The damage is all the way across the back (having got the boot open to retrieve my laptop, it won't close again now!):

The offside corner come off worst:

Here's the same corner from inside the boot (note the excessive amount of daylight!):

From the photos it looks like fibreglass only. If the chassis is ok is it a bit worrying it is considered a write off so easily???

Thats how I upgraded to a V8S - some tt took the nose off the S3C and I accidentally bought a V8S whilst haggling with the insurance co..

Might be worth thinking about buying it back and selling it as a project if the rest of the car is sound. I bought mine back and sold it at cost to Silverback Mike who fixed it for a fraction of the cost of the insurance quote. Means another S lives to see another day.. biggrin

ETA - 'lo Dave.. Long time no hear.. Must meet up for a beer

J444 is now mine. If I remember correctly, the repair was carried out by Tom Horsburgh whose reputation seems to speak for itself. I have to say you really need to be looking closely to find even a shred of evidence that this ever happened.

wavey Si, would love to catch up!

Going to West Mids meet this Sunday lunchtime (Meriden), but that may be too far for you. Plan to go to Cambs meet 3rd Thurs in Sept too.

Happy to meet up one evening as I'm often in Huntingdon and so could collect you on the way home?

Also, business related, we hope to have some new offices in Nuneaton September ish, suitable to hire out for training for 10-15 delegates etc., may be of use to you.

No consolation but somebody has just driven into the back of my old but very trusty and immpecably serviced diesel merc estate which has very little value but is irreplacable. Supermarket car park loading car and some old gimmer in a motobility Ford Focus just drives straight into the back, could have been killed. His car radiator, both front wings, passenger door wouldn't open, puncture and broken wheel rim and windscreen broken. He didn't seem overly bothered because he was getting a new one tomorrow. I now have the problem of finding a replacement. Rant over but I,m gutted too.

Anyway I hope your car has an agreed value to make your claim both straightforward and quick and you get back in a TVR as soon as before the summer (whatever that is---bring back global warming ). If you decide to go down the V8S route I am about to offer an unusually good one, wont be the cheapest but it is a top car. Give me a ring if you want details and I hope we both get back to driving soon. sTeVeR

It can depend upon who you are insured with. If at all possible go through your insurance, and use your assessor rather than theirs. Then claim it back from their insurance (I should have done that when I had my accident).

How much is it insured for. Going on what mine is costing it looks like around £3000 of damage, but I am no expert in the matter.

Hi Graham hope you are well. If I send you some details of V8S would you be able to update it on my ailing website
