door release cable

Hi all,
I know a couple of threads already cover part of this topic, but I have another question.
Over the weekend I investigated why the door wouldn't lock either from the inside button or with the key. The lock just seemed jammed.
With the door trim off the lock worked fine. As soon as the trim was back in place and bolted and snapped back - guess what? The lock stopped moving again. I finally concluded that the cable (wire) from the inner release handle to the lock was too short causing it to be under tension when the trim was firmly in place. This means the door latch is partially activated thus stopping the lock from depressing.
Because of the simple bent wire there seemed to be no way to adjust the length of the cable. I ended up snapping the hook off trying to unbend it.
So now I have no inner door release - but the lock works!
Obviously I need to replace the cable, but I can't see how one gets access to where the cable connects to the inner door handle - it all seems to be buried in GRP.
Can anybody help? I'm well and truly stuck. (but at least now I know how to get the door trim off and on having done it about 25 times last night!!!!)

That's dead helpful - my drivers door won't lock either, unless I press the button, and hold the outer handle up while I shut the door. Seemed to work with the door trim off though. Only started doing that a few weeks ago and I hadn't started to work out why...
Anyway, the inner door handle does come off, I've done it ages ago. As far as I can remember, you have to remove the trim surround by pushing the trim in and sliding it either forward or back - then I think if you lift the handle there is a screw underneath that lets you pick the handle out and disentangle the release wire.
There again I might be thinking of another car altogether - senility is setting in fast here...
