I don't think so - I have a V8 so can't advise you specifically.

The trick is not to overtighten the bolts when you refit them - and use new gaskets. Most oil leaks are caused by the rocker cover bolts being done up too tight and the edges getting bent - you'd be surprised just how loose the manufacturers torque setting is - don't tighten any further.

If you want a top result get a wire brush in your drill - get every bit of rust and paint off so they are bare shiny metal then take them off to a powder coaters - it won't cost much. I got my entire chassis and loads of bits done for £100.

Don't worry about the inside - as long as they aren't dripping oil everywhere they will be OK, they only need to be coated on the outside.

It will cost approx. £100 to get the chrome plated with that floats your boat ?

Or spend a fiver on a tin of silver Smoothrite, a tenner on a pair of rocker cover gaskets and end up with something like this:



A good wire brushing and a degrease is all the prep you'll need. You can do them at the next service time when you take them off to check the valve clearances...

Nice car, where are the driving lights from and have they caused any overheating problems by sitting in the air intake?

Halfords driving lights, about £20 plus fitting kit £12. Not caused any issues with heating so far.

Went on a 120mile road trip over the weekend, down to Fareham, along the coast to The New Forest(some great driving roads) then home again via alton. Even sat in a traffic jam on motorway for 20mins and temp went just a mm above 90 then back down again.

So far, (touching wood here) shes been great, not as bad as i'd expected when i reserched before buying her.

Although, i'm still not 100% convinced about the chassis, with such little experiance i dont know if what i'm looking at is good or bad????

Post some pics of the bits of the chassis you think are bad and I'm sure you will get some honest opinions and recommendations...

Outriggers, rear suspension mounts, Trailing arms, seat belt mounts, tank cradle are the usual suspects...
