A few newbie questions about a V8S which i have just bought.
The spare wheel was not fixed in the boot, it looks like it fix's to a nut that sticks out on the left hand side in the boot, is this correct and if so please can you tell me if its just a bolt through the wheel holes or is there a special fixing thingy?
The tyres on the car are cracking as they must be old, it has 205/55/15 on at the moment and i see from the hand book the standard size is 205/ 60/15. do's any one run 215/55/15 on the standard OZ rims? And can any one recommend a tyre?
Is there touch up paint available? mine is a purple/ red color and the service book say's its Audi something i can't read the second bit.
One last question, pleae can you tell me what Ford the rear lights come from as one has a small crack in it.

Hi Wheels and Welcome to the wonderful worlg of the 'S'
First off no two are the same so you have to take care to ensure that advice given is accurate for your car
Where abouts are you based in the country, there are lots of S owners only too happy to help more so if you are local.
What car did you buy and where from, its quite possible the car is well known here and very specific help can be given.
Cant help with the spre wheel as I have an S2 V6 2.9 and yours might be different but mine (a space saver) is restrained by a rubber belt hooked into the boot.
Tyres, should be 205/60ZR15 but I think that the Z rated tyre isnt available in that size but I could be wrong, if so someone will soon tell you. If you go to a V rated tyre you must tell your insurance company but that shouldnt cause any difficulty but have a look at this thread - I'm very happy with the Bridgestone Turanza

Do you have the Steve Heath bible, 'The TVR S Series' available on ebay as well sometime or in Pistonheads classifieds or from TVR Car Club.

My spare has a bolt through one of the wheel holes.
I don't think 205/60x15 are available any more - you could go up to 215 to preserve the original tyre diameter though if you stick to 205's at 55 profile it won't make much difference, the speedo will read slightly higher than before and it will lower the gearing but both are such a small difference that I would say it doesn't really matter.
Remember going wider will make the steering heavier.
I got touch up paint mixed at Halfords they had TVR paint codes - 100ml was £8 I think.
Rear lights are escort Mk4, if you look around (ebay) there are clear, smoked, green, blue and red versions available as well.
Some pics of your car would be good - look at useful links at the top of the forum if you want to know how to do it - and have you added your name to the owners list?

I have an S3 so can't be much help, technically on the V8S. That said I run 205/60/R15 91V Toyo tyres on mine which are great. Local dealer had to special order them but they are available - might be of use??
This is a great forum, as a newbie myself I have had some great advise & help with the 'fun' things that have arisen with mine.

Hi Grant, assuming your V8 is the same as my V6 then you are corect, your spare does indeed fit to a captive nut thingy on the left side of the boot using a special sort of bolt with a tapered seat to fit the wheel hole.A few newbie questions about a V8S which i have just bought.

Although saying that I never carry mine, just a can of tyreweld just in case.
Rear light units are mark 4 escort I believe. hope this helps.

Just been out for a blast. What a great car. Are they All so loud?? Mine sounds like the maclaren doctors car, that checks the circut before a F1 race. I Think My ear drums are burst.[ in a good way]!!!

Grant, my bolt thingy is being kept safe just incase I ever sell the car and that way I can put it back to standard for the new owner, and YES they are all that loud, although saying that I though mine was a bit too noisy recently in a resonating sort of way. What I did was replace the 3 exhaust rubbers (£4.50 from TVR Car Pats) which seemed to give the exhaust system a bit more isolation from the chassis and that has got rid of the horrible part of the noise so now it is just like a minature nascar which is why I bought the car in the first place.

Leave it with me I will see what I can do, which means I will ask my teenage daughter to take/upload the picture for me.no worry's. could you or some post up a pic of the bolt thingy so i can make one? If all i need is a tapered washer and a bolt, it should be no problem. I would guess the thread is metric looking at all the other bolt sizes listed on the site.

Don't worry about the pic. It was raining this morning so i soon knocked one up with a old wheel nut and a 12mm bolt. I also got round to changing my tyres as well. When i checked they were made in 1996 jan/feb and still had loads of tread on them, this ties up with a bill in the history file for new tyres in 1996.The price then was over £400 and now the Bridgestones were £270. Just go's to show how little the car has been used.
