S1 isteering bearing replacement advice

Has anybody carried this job out and if so how difficult/easy is it?

I am talking about the triangular affair that takes the steering column throught the bulkhead to the first uj. I see they are available still and mine has a fair bit of play in it.

I've also done this job - see my web site at www.tvrgit.com on the diary page for October last year. I faffed about with this and a number of other jobs over about a week, but if you tried harder than me, I think a couple of hours would do it if I that was al the time I had!

It's not a difficult job, just fiddly. Makes a big difference though!

I did mine last week and it was a simple job, it took me about 2 hours (as tvrgit said it would) There is a big difference to the feel of the steering and it also seemed to make it slightly lighter. I also replaced the old bolts with shiny stainless steel ones to make it look a bit better, I managed it without help, all i did was to put a small (8mm) spanner on the bolt head inside the car and a socket extension bar through the hole so that when I turned the nut outside the car the spanner jammed against the bar and enabled me to tighten the nuts up ok.
