Air filter

I bought a cleaning kit for the air filter at the weekend and have followed the instructions - result the filter is falling to bits - not too impressed as it was a Pipercross filter and cleaning kit!! I assume the filter is the standard one for the S3 (square foam one at the front N/S); the lists show it as Pipercross 3004 but have had a quick look on the internet and the part has not been recognised. Does anyone know if I can just get the filter itself or do I have to get the whole thing incl mounting plate and also a good source for one.

Thanks Chris - I will watch that item but as I'm not on ebay I may ask my son to bid for me if I can't get one elsewhere at a decent price so any part no info would still be useful if anyone has it?

also note if this is the orginal fit filter you with have to replace the breather tube with a breather filter these are fairly cheap from halfords

Thanks for the inputs folks. I have checked again and the correct part no is C3004 which has now been confirmed by Pipercross (my list must be out of date!!). A purchase is in hand by one way or another in the meantime some glue is being used as a temporary measure in case I don't get one for the weekend.(I'm hoping to get to Harewood on Sunday for the TVRCC Speed Championship round and also The Gold Cup at Oulton on Monday if the weather isn't too bad).

I had same problem but I think its all down to filter age, having subsequently replaced the filter and cleaned it 12 months on the cleaning system works and works well. Unless your filter has been replaced recently then I would suggest it was your filter that was knackered and not a fault of the cleaning products. I would expect these to last 4-5 years (pipercross say 100K miles). This said, if you have replced it recently and it still fell apart I would approach pipercross with the receipt and see what they say (you've nothing to lose)

You are correct Mark - I've altered my post above which on reflection isn't too fair. I had assumed that the foam would last for many years but clearly not - I suppose in the environment under the bonnet, particularly on the S3C where the cats do get very hot (and stay that way for a long time after switching off), its not surprising - anyway the replacement is arranged. There is a message here for everyone though that the filters don't last for ever - mine is crumbling away after trying to clean it to the extent that I daren't put it back on the car in case bits get sucked into the engine. We need to replace them more regularly.

I don't think it helps that the breather pipe goes into the filter so you get oily fumes in it.

Mine doesn't anymore, the £10 breather filter is well worth it
