Bonnet won't shut properly..

I noticed yesterday while out for a spin(sun at last!!)that the right side of the bonnet was a shaking a bit near the windscreen, i had a look when i got home.
The bonnet spring/rod thing is going into it's place, but not actually clipping down, like it does on the near side.

Any idea's folks..

There's a sliding 'catch' in the body that moves backwards and forwards when you pull the bonnet release, worth checking it isn't stuck on that side - get someone to pull the bonnet catch while you look at the catches on each side to compare.

If it isn't the sliding clip then you may need to check the male bit is in the correct position; on mine its held in position with a nut on the top so if you slacken it off (slightly) you can realign it with the catch on the body. Mine came loose some years ago and had to be adjusted/tightened.

You will probably find the locating lug nut on the bonnet is loose. Its all a bit trial and error, tightening the lug, closing the bonnet, try to open the bonnet, bonnet still wont close, bonnet will close but when you pull on the bonnet it comes out, oh the fun you will have realigning it! One thing that I noticed when mine wouldn't close, when I finally lined it up, when I pulled on the bonnet release both sides released together, prior to that one would pop up then the other side.

You might try pushing the spring back and spraying some WD40 in it then tightening the spring - put a spanner through the bonnet slot and twist the spring. If the bonnet was wiggling around it sounds like the bonnet stay is about to come loose from the nut and if that happens it is a bh to get back in.

Be carefull, if accidentally you adjust the position of the Conical bit that goes down into the hole, I moved mine a bit too high and had a real problem getting the bonnet to open again.

That wouldn't be good..

Well, today, the girlfriend took the Trev out to show her brother who was visiting, when she got back, i popped the bonnet to show her what the problem was, and the spring/pin just fell onto the floor!!!

So that was the problem i said! So now i have it on the kitchen worktop, i didn't have time to do it today, but when i do i'll be pooin meself incase i can't get the bonnet open..

To get the pin in the right place, put some masking tape over the latch and see where the pin touches it as you lower the bonnet. Adjust the position of the pin until it touches in the middle of the latch. Then adjust the pin length until the latch just engages as the bonnet fully closes. If you're ever going to adjust the front/rear, vertical or sideways position of the front of the bonnet - do that first before setting the latch pins. Be prepared to spend a long time getting it right.

Before adjusting if you loosen the nuts on the bonnet hinge (the ones on the threaded bar that connects to the bonnet itself) it allows you to wiggle the bonnet a bit if the catch gets stuck and the extra few mm of play should be enough to free it. As long as you don't move the ones on the hinge side then when the catch has been setup if you re-tighten the nuts the adjustment will not have moved.

Got it sorted today! I just hope the nut doesn't slacken off again..

Thanks for the advise, i did loosen the bonnet hinge, and it bailed me out!!
