speedo drive and cable replacement

Has anybody replaced a speedo drive and cable on S1 who can give me advice or tips?

I have ramps in work to use but need to know if I need any special tools and if the job requires gearbox dropping or can be done with all in place?

Only just gone so only done a couple of miles in car, but realy usefull if I had the bit fixed as selling the car soon and need everything intact.

Any advice bout the speedo most welcome.

Oh yes it is mechanical drive not electronic

Yes it can be done with everything in place.

BUT it is very, very easy not to get the cable properly inserted. Be prepared for a second attempt.

Thanks for the info, will look out for the incorrect insertion (oh err!)

Getting a bit tricky guessing the speed all the time, especially when the right foot gets a bit heavy, officer
