It's raining again, so I am planning to proof the roof with Thompsons Waterseal. Just wanted to check that this is the normal stuff you can buy in B&Q for coating bricks and exterior wood etc.
Their web site does not say it is OK for fabric, but I am willing to give it a go. Just don't want to roof to end up looking like the garden fence

Peter, don't worry mate. I had similar reservations at first.

Did mine months ago, and can report that the old girl has held up well to the weather we've had of late.

Think I did about 6 coats though... still beads off

I liked the smell

Was advised by David Batty that it desperately needed some, so kept on going until it was beading the waterseal!??!

Did you give it 24 hours between coats?

OK, I am off to B&Q for a can of this stuff, then much fun painting it on. I'll give it few coats, as I doubt if it has been done for decades.....

Cheers

Got a tin of waterseal, and gave the hood 2 coats yesterday. The first coat really did soak in well, showing that the fabric was very porus. Roof looks nice now, if a bit smelly.
However, the waterseal soaked right through to the cream lining fabric, making some dark patches. Will these completely disappear when it drys out?, or should I also coat the inside of the rear hood with waterseal to give a uniform colour ? (Guess that is really gonna pong!)

Cheers
