I thought they were M10 x 1.0 pitch thread but have just got hold of some nuts and they don't fit furious

They were definitely M10 x 1mm on mine, thats with the original fit droplinks, checked most carefully before buying and listing it in the table. Is it thread pitch or diameter that appears to be the problem?

Its the pitch I think - assuming of course they have sent me the right nuts! They are packaged as M10x1.0
I've got a micrometer so can check the thread diameter later.

To check the thread pitch on the nuts, carve a scrap of wood to roughly the right size and wind the nut on. It will leave enough of a witness mark for you to be able to measure with a rule.

I bet they've sent you 1.25mm pitch, its a very common size.

I think you could be right - not very scientific but looking inside the nut it isn't as fine as the thread on the droplink - but it doesn't fit on a standard 10mm bolt as its finer than that.

OK I solved this little mystery - the thread is buggered on the end of the drop link I was trying. I tried the other one no problem. Bloody law of sod!
