Hello All,

I'm driving a 2,9 tvr series 1,5
but it stoped!

Does anyone know why my car doesn't start anymore?
when it was running:
1) a bit off rough idling, but run Ok
2) in the end it stalled when I stopped (one afternoon) It started fine

After it didn't start anymore:
1) after the last afternoon the day after it didn't start.
2) I checked:
a) Fuelrail has pressured fuel inside the line on top of the engine, and the return line flushes when disconnected, so I think I've got fuel.
b) I've got spark. Checked when disconnected lead with screwdriver holding agains block.
c) my injector's work (put a 12v lamp on the plug and they blink regular)
It does turn over (fine) but no start.

I put some lighter gas in the plenum chamber but didn't start at all. (disconnected one pipe from the airflowmeters)

IT SHOULD RUN! (Fuel+Injectors+Spark)

Does anyone now what to check?

Have you checked / replaced that connector in the steering column that melts?

hello Barkychoc,
I saw the picture in the forum. Of the jellow "smoked" plug. I though that I wouldn't have spark or fuel then...
Cheers

It hasn't flooded has it? Do you have wet plugs?
They can be quite hard to dry off enough to spark once wet with fuel.
Just wondered now its cold if the engine has overfuelled?

All guesswork if I'm honest.

Hmm, as you say, if it has fuel, air and a spark there's obviously the incorrect quantity of one or more of them or at the wrong time (although I'd imagine the latter is likely to suddenly materialise).

My money'd be on a duff sensor or something producing a very wrong mixture one way or the other.

You're right - that was cause no spark/no fuel.

Hi

Check that the diff clamp hasn't come loose and let the timing drift. If you've got sparks and fuel (and hopefully compression) then they need to be doing them at the right time.

Also worth checking that the rotor and izzy cap are in good ondition, you might be getting a spark but if it's not strong then it might not be good enough.

Hi Olav,

do you have an alarm/immobiliser fitted at all? If so, might be worth resetting it. Had similar problems not long ago and had it removed.

I'm surprised no one has suggested disconnecting the TPS. Worth trying with it removed.

Also, if you've been cranking it for a bit do you smell petrol? Are the plugs wet? If not then it would be worth checking the fuel pressure..... however, my brain is now engaging. I assume you can hear the fuel pump when you turn on the ignition? It should run for a second or so to pressurise the system. There is also a relay that controls the injectors and without this it won't do much - but you seems to have eliminated that with the light on the injectors.

If I think of any more I'll be back.

Hi Olav,

any progress on your starting issue?

Have you checked for pepernoten in your fuel filter, since it stopped running on December 5th?

But seriously, can it be that somebody messed with your fuel, since the filler cap has no lock and taking into account the nice neighborhood you live in?

Did you refuel just before the engine failure?
You won't be the first to get stranded due to a "mix-up" at a gas station. Either caused by the driver or by the gas station. Sometimes complete traffic jams with stalled cars occur caused by a wrong fuel supply.

Hello All,

Mmm, I don't know!! I think I will have to check all the things you said.
I am about to say: no that's not it... But to be honest I don't know.

Are the injectors OK? Think so... but don't know. Because It does seem to "run" on three cylinders when I start. The injector's are connected in two blocks? left/right? See electrical scematic.

I didn't mix the fuel.. But who knows what the neighbors did :-)

Tommorow I hope I know more!

I - don't - understand !!
It's running agian! I've taken the FSE boost valve off, messed up the rubberring (accident), taken an old injector rubberring and used that. Thought well lets start a bit, and after about 4x starting, I though It was improving and finaly it....started..

:-) :-) ??

I don't know what was the problem.
But I'm happy

Fingers crossed :-) ....that's right.

It can't be OK.

The EEC reader said 11 (that means "no problem")
I think It's the airflowmeters, so I bough these.
//cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ite...

Did you know that new they are 480 euro ex...EACH. ford dealer price. (Say 300 gbp each)

Hope it's all OK now. I have looked at your profile and it seems that you like British cars. You should be used to these strange frustrating type of problems.
Good luck
