I have been mulling over the idea of adding some vents to the S Bonnet and picked these up cheap, just wondering what other peoples opinions of them are, the pic shows them resting on the bonnet , they would of course be sunken in and blended into the bonnet if I went ahead. I cant decide if they look a bit tacky though hence all opinions good or bad would be appreciated.
Or any suggestions as to other ways of doing it.

GreenV8S has some already fitted, might be worth getting some more pic's from him....?

I know that Peter's car is far from standard and is used for sprinting so they are probably there to help cooling.

However I wouldn't fit them unless over heating was a continual issue - the lines of the S look too good to be tinkered with but as I always say it's your car so as long as you are happy with the results you should go ahead wink

Well i'm affraid I would say no. not there anyway

Would they look daft on the wing tops like the sagaris ? no second thoughts that would look like a cheap copy

mmmmm

How about on the sides near the indicators

I'm just not sure messing the the design is worthwhile, unless its already non-standard

I'm not sure Ken. Colour coded they might look OK, but I think it might be a bit much with the centre vent as well.
Its your car - I wouldn't worry what other people think.

Thats where the intake vents for the heater are going, so it will definately be Non Standard.

Are you considering it for looks, or for cooling? They're too far back and far too small to do any good in terms of cooling. If you can aim for around 1 square foot of vent that's starting to get useful and the lowest pressure area is well forward.

I'd say a no with the V6 scoop - it looks a bit messy. If the offset scoop was removed then maybe it would work but what purpose are they for?
You really want the cool air intake vents you talked about on the top near the windscreen in the high pressure area but they will need to feed into a chamber with a water drain outlet and there isn't much free space under the S bonnet.

HI Ken, do you have any problems with cooling at the moment? It always struck me that the vent on the V6 S bonnet was the wrong way round; forward facing at the back of the bonnet creates positive pressure at the back of the engine where you really want negative for cooling. It is very much too far back to have anything to do with induction. The V8 bonnet (which luckily I have) has the vent facing rearwards and hot air does tend to get sucked out.
I have often wondered if TVR put the vent in the early S bonnet for show, with little thought to function? Anybody know better?
If you are having cooling problems then bonnet vents MAY help but I am not too sure where to put them to best effect. If you are having such problems I suspect there are other things to tackle first.
Aesthetically? Not pleasing to my eye I'm afraid!

I think the general Consensus is a NO then, and it probably confirms my own thoughts (hence the reason I wanted others views), The bonnet will be going on an S2 with a V8 in it, as per the pic above the car has many many parts missing and I bought it for peanuts but to put it back to standard would be unrealistic price wise so there will be many non standard things on it, I like the look asthetically of the louvres on bonnets and also thought it might have given a bit more cooling for the V8.Actually that bonnet will be going on the v6 eventually as its better than my original.
Anyway thanks for the feedback I'll see if I can sell them to someone in the Hot Hatch brigade.(they only cost 4 Quid so no loss)

This then leads me onto asking those in the know, will there be any need to change from the standard bonnet when fitting the V8 or was that change purely aesthetic, I do prefer the looks of the V8 and the non Scooped bonnets but they come at a price and as a 3rd car I cant really justify the expense when I have a standard one already.

I have fitted some vents not dissimilar to GreenV8S`s, and I think they look good, but they are not the same as the plastic vents you have purchased. I fitted them for cooling purposes, but its true to say that there are a number of other things which I have done, like fitting a new radiator (!) which have had greater a impact on cooling.
The big downside with vents is leaving the car outside in the rain....the water drips through the vents straight onto my custom made extractor manifolds, which are bound in heat insulation tape, just to help adsorb the moisture!

Ken I am sure somewhere it says the V8 fits under the V6 bonnet - the V8 bonnet was for the italian supercharged 2 litre V8S to allow room for the blower.
