Anybody for Chimaera seats in there S?
Me! I intend to get a pair at some point in 2009, or perhaps some cerb ones - I think they'll also fit (they fit in the chimaeras) and are a bit more supportive. The original S ones I have are ok but I think that by the time I've had them sorted I could have spent the money on some new ones

I'm considering this...
I thought you were also considering a Chimaera chassis, engine and body....?
Some of you will know I bought some Jag XJS Coupe seats a while back (TVR Colours are Jag colours) - they are ace but do throw up a few little challenges to make them fit. If you're looking for a bolt in replacement look elsewhere.
The issues are mainly seatbelt related - they are so tight width wise there isn't room for the seatbelt stalk - so I'm going to get some webbing type seatbelt buckles which will hopefully cure that.
The other issue with the seat right back is that it rubs on the seatbelt where it goes upwards just before the top mount - again I need to fabricate something to stop this happening.
The mounting holes are not in the right place either - but that was a bit much to expect.

I want seats I can get a racing harness on.
In that case you probably have extra clearance issues to consider because of the rollover bar. Have you considered going for an aftermarket bucket seat? I use a Cobra Monarco seat which is a huge improvement over the original and allows me to fit a proper 5-point harness. There are plenty of other seats that would fit I'm sure.I actually like those XJS seats. The original S seats are okay, not so good on long distance possibly.
Sweet GreenV8S, may I see a picture of your bucket seats? What do you mean by roll over bar? I haven't got a roll-hoop, would be a good idea if I did though...nuts something else to put on the list

Hihellohi.....I have some spare seats which I have removed from my car because I have fitted some Cobra classic bucket seats....basically they are in average condition...no splits, the frame has a little surface rust on the underside. You are welcome to them if you want to collect....I do not want to throw them away, but they wil sit in my garage for ever and a day otherwise.
I am in South Norfolk.

I take my S on an annual trip into Europe and you're right, the original S seats are not as comfy as the more modern ones on a longer run but they are ok.
Here's a pic of my roll bar and harnesses for your info....

The roll bar really tightens everything up and coupled with the suspension mod's makes it handle great! Mrs L also likes the added safety it brings, especially with the harnesses due to the lack of airbags etc. The harnesses also make you feel more "connected" to the car when cornering.
Because the harnesses hold you so tightly in place I would NOT ever consider fitting them without a roll bar; if you do roll with a conventional seat belt you'll have some movement to give you a chance but a harness will hold you rigid with your upper body & head left exposed
