V6 Engine Granada or Scorpio?
Discussion
For 'other' car is a Scorpio 2.5 TD (family and dog carrier). The engine is fine but the rear bumper is smashed up as the result of me not asking for help when reversing to hook up my caravan (please don't stop reading - I was only moving it from one field to another and have only ever been on the roads once 8 years ago.....)
As new bumpers are £300+ and even scrap are £170 odd I was wondering about buying a donor car for the bodywork and other bits. Part of the deal for the TVR was that I try to keep the Scorpio as long as possible!
£500-£600 will get me a decent 80k 2.9 petrol model.
My questions:
Is the 2.9 Scorpio engine the same as the Granada and can I do a straight swap?
Would it matter if the donor Scorpio was automatic?
Thanks in advance and I'm selling the caravan now.........

The 2.9 12v was used in some scorpios wasn't it? Hard to tell from the intarweb as ford appear to have called it different things depending on where it was being sold and the only people who seem to like them enough to have written anything down are the estonians http://www.fordscorpio.ee/eng/?page=main I don't remember much from the day I spent looking into why I shouldn't buy one last year

Yes definitely. Most of them, in fact.Barkychoc said:
My limited understanding is that the scorpio is auto only and the ECU gives some major issues converting to manual - also assuming a flywheel and clutch will fit.
I think the engine is a bit different too - I think the Granada one they call BOA and the Scorpio is BOB.
Don't know about auto-only, you might be right - but if so, then there may indeed be some ECU issues with getting it to run as a manual without the gearbox sensor inputs.I think the engine is a bit different too - I think the Granada one they call BOA and the Scorpio is BOB.
As far as I know (and I don't know that much about the Scorpio, but I had a Granada before the S) the Scorpios were all catalyst-equipped, so again, if you're putting that into a car with a non-cat ECU, the sensors and mapping will be wrong - CAT cars have no air meters, but 2 lambda sensors and a MAP sensor to determine the fuelling, for example.

No.
