I had to scrape the ice from the windows today for the first time, seems like winter is not too far off. It is about time I put the S into hybernation.
What car covers do people use / recommend ? The car will be kept outside, and still used on most weekends to ensure it does not condense up.
Classic additions do a light and heavy duty full cover. Anyone got these, and how good are they? I am thinking that the light duty one will suffice as it is fully waterproof and breathable.

Cheers

Pete

Have the lightweight for my Chim, very good, and can confirm its waterproof....although can be a bit of a pain to get on if you're on your own. good fit as well..

Pete,

There are many car covers out there, have you looked on the TVRCC web site?

Just a thought, why not head to the 'Classic and Sports Car' show at the NEC in November, they usually have stalls that sell car covers, car-coons etc and usually at discounted prices.

I had one many years ago and I think it was a 'Cover-craft' beathable cover, worked really well but you did have a watch out for really windy weather.

Bought one from classic additions - does the trick (goretex- ish and fully waterproof) and fits pretty well too:

for a pic see this thread:

Cheers Tim

You couldn't post or mail me a few pics of the cover and lock could you?

Just want to see if it's worth using all next months spending money on it or if it can wait until the really bad weather sets in. ie snow

no worries mate - I'll see what I can get (if theres still light) tonight -

Funny I was thinking the same (i.e. using all of next month spending money) on whether or not to get a new rear screen - you had yours done recently didnt you? was it worth it or d'you recon it would be best left 'till next April?

did yours have a rip or did you just want a new one?

Cheers for the info. I did consider making one, but the material was £4.50/m, and as I would need a good 10m+, buying one is much more sensible. Doubt if I can get up to the classic car show, as life is a bit busy, good idea though.
From the picture of the classic additions cover, it looks like it will need some securing around the sides to stop it flapping in the gales.

Yep definitely well worth the money! I can see out of the back of the car now!!

But I did have no choice as the right hand corner started to come unstitched. I also use mine as a daily drive so seeing out of the back is a bit of a must.

Depends on whether you can survive and how bad it is.

There is a product test of 10 outdoor car covers in the new (Dec 2003) issue of Practical Classics.

I had the same problem with loads of the stitching giving up the ghost. Mine was covered by my winscreen policy, so it only cost me the £60 excess (job was £290 inc. VAT) and no effect on my no claims. I'd definitely advise talking to your insurance to see if you can claim for yours.

I found the difference in visibility quite startling (plus the rain stays out)!

Checked with Tescos, unfortunately my policy only covers glass, and not the rear screen.
