Hesitation at high rpm
Discussion
Hi guys,
Ok, my car is currently mid-rebuild but I wanted to get some idea's about a problem I had prior to the strip down.
In first or second gear the rev's will climb to redline no problem but in third, forth and fifth when I get to 5000 rpm the car judders and feels like its hit a rev limiter. As far as I know it doesn't have one unless TVR fitted one from new which seems unlikely.
It's the 2.9 and its had uprated fuel injectors. Could the problem be caused by poor fuel pressure? It still has the original TVR one.
Cheers Ad

Could it be the opposite if it hasn't been set up properly?
Too much fuel going in due to the bigger injectors?
What are the plugs like? Are they black and sooty?
Plugs looked fine, standard worn look I would say. If it was too much fuel, would an adjustable fuel pressure regulator help? My old man's wedge used to run really lumpy at low revs and it was originaly believed it was because he had a high performance cam (the engines a 4.6). We fitted a A.F.R. on the advice of another wedge owner and it improved the running at low revs considerably. Too much fuel going in due to the bigger injectors?

I was just thinking if the injectors are uprated maybe the original fuel regulator can't cope at higher rpm's, strange that it doesn't affect 1st and 2nd tho.
I had a similar problem with a Ford Sierra 2.9 XR4x4. Couldn't nail it down and ended up selling it on. The hesitation only happened when pulling hard high up the rev range, the bloke I sold it to took great glee in telling me all it needed was a new coil! Best XR I've had (1 of 4), bugger.

Maybe get the car tuned. I was wondering myself if the S2 has a rev limiter can any body answer ????
It certainly does - as anyone whose experienced a stuck throttle cable can testify! Not an experience to repeat in a hurry..........Gassing Station | S Series | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
