hi,

just a simple question : when i disconnect my tachometer, my engine stop ! is it normal ?
It has to be normal that this tachometer get impulsion from the ignition coil, but it's strange to connect it in a serial way instead of a paralell one.
I have some trouble (temporary breakdowns ??) with ignition and i wonder if it could come from the tachometer itself.

any idea ?

When I took the dash out of my s1 I could not work out why it didn’t start as soon as I put the tachometer back in (and taped it to the steering column) it started fine so I guess you do need it to keep the engine ticking over.

Yup thats normal. The spark does go through the tach from the ignition on the way to the coil, if you want to take it out and get the car running without the dial you can do a bodge of completing the circuit with a couple of banana plugs a fuse and a bit of wire in that plastic multiplug thingumyjig.
