thinking of fitting a roll bar to my S3.Alley Bars don't have one off the shelf but could possibly make a one off ( sounds expensive ) Would be grateful for any advice, sugestions or pictures out there ? Not looking for full cage just a hoop and diagonal brace or, as I seen in other cars, two braces back to the rear bulkhead but they were all in steel bodied sports cars guess in a TVR you've got to pick up on the chassis somewhere ? Mike.

Mine was made by RollCenter and fitted by Tower View. I don't think Tower View is trading any more but Dave Wallis may still be able to supply/fit for you.

Guglielmis in Daventry, fit them.

I think Longers has one of theirs.

I can vouch for their work, as have had bits done before, i was also thinking of getting a roll bar and brake upgrade by them this year.

The first one looks to low to be of a lot of use. The other looks very good.

I am also looking for a roll bar, and will contact TR Lane to discuss.....if they do not already do one to fit an S (I imagine Griff/Chimera are subtly different) then if there are a few of us who want one, we could all benefit.
Its good to see a fabricator around who talks sensible money instead of ripping people off because of a brand name. There is certainly an investment to make the first one or two bars, but thereafter, about £20-00 of materials, a few £ per bend, and an hour or so in a jig welding it up.....£800-00 or more is just taking the p***.

I'm interested as well. Where does that £800+ price come from? it seems very steep, does it include fitting?

If you get a roll bar fitted, do you need to re-trim carpets etc? Presumably that'd have to be done elsewhere?

£800-00 is an approximate, but that was about what roll centre were charging, and then Tower View charged extra for fitting it.
£1220-00 was an amount which Longers was quoted for making and fitting a roll bar from Guiliami in Davetry (or however the name is spelt), although to be fair this was from a fabricator next door, and was for a bespoke rollbar, so it would be time consuming to fabricate/design etc. Longers ended up buying a car with one of these already fitted, and it is extremely good.

Hi

Having been looking for one for a while, I spotted this thread and have e-mailed them to get a quote.

I will keep you updated when I get a response - unless someone else gets to hear first.

Cheers

Couldn't have put it better myself! Here's a pic of mine....

It has more lateral & diagonal support than the Tower View one, is made of heavier gauge steel and also has small loops that bolt into the holes you can see using huge allen keys to give a bit more protection when wearing a helmet.

Price I was quoted by Gugi's also included harnesses.

At the end of the day I'd have still had one fitted even if I didn't end up buying the car I did - I know that the harnesses in a mates Caterham saved my life and after that accident I looked at the steering wheel in my S in a very different way......

Apart from the safety angle the bar really tightens the car up and improves the handling wink

No, if fitted by someone competent they should be able to do the whole job

It shouldn't affect the seat - my vertical support easily fits down the side of the seat. I'm also tall and take care that my headrest is in the correct position otherwise there is a risk your head will hit the bar in an accident headache

Having the harnesses really makes you feel more "connected" to the car and certainly helps you to feel it / drive it better. I wouldn't consider fitting harness without a bar though - they hold you rigid if correctly done up so you'd not be able to duck down IF you did roll it.....

Only other thing I'd say is that it would be worth trying to retain the existing seat belts if possible cos the harnesses are less convenient if you are just popping round the corner for something

Hope above helps someone!

I called Tim at TR Lane about making a cage for my V8S, after seeing one he'd made (rounded design) fitted to a friends Griffith back in the summer. He said then that he had no pattern for the 'S' but would be interested in having a look at one to measure up. Apparently the Griffith and Chimaera have ready-made mounts present in the chassis, the 'S' doesn't, unfortunately.
I'm very keen to get a roll-cage fitted.
Is there anyone close at hand to Stroud, with an 'S' and 'V8S', able to call round and let him measure up?
Can we devise a page, like the owners list, with details of those interested?

The bars they do for the Griff look as if they bolt to the seatbelt mounts and the rear chassis members. If they are thinking of a similar arrangement for the S they'll probably need to look at both the S2 and S3. The mountings for the seatbelt reels and the adjacent body mounts differ slightly, so their position in relation to the rear chassis might also be different.

People, keep me in the loop. I would like one and as CTE said we might get a deal if we buy a few at once.
Thanks Gary

Mick,

It might be worth asking in this forum if that's what you want to do....
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/forum.asp?h=0...

This chap runs an S bodied race car so may be a source of info if you want a full cage....

Thanks for all your interest guys, I did follow up the Rollcentre / Tower view suggestion. In my opinion the Rollcentre web site is very mis-leading, they list the S series and quote a fixed price for each style of roll bar. for a simple single bar with a couple of rear braces think it was about £145. Great I thought and was straight on the phone, but it turns out fella at Tower View paid for design/ tooling costs so has exclusive rights to sell this particular roll bar. not a problem thinks I,maybe he puts a little on the price for his trouble but thats ok. A little ! he wants £399 + carriage + vat. We're now over five hundred quid. To me thats a lot of dosh for a fairly simple bit of fabrication,
Needless to say my car does not yet sport a roll bar.
