Well, my funny noise of old returned yesterday after a four month absense, just before I got into Larkfield to have a drive with Walldonway's Tamora.

After my test drive and forcing myself not to buy a new toy (or remembering what the wife would do to me!) I popped down to their service centre for them to have a listen, as every time I'd taken it before the noise had gone before I'd got there so they just thought I was going mad.

Anyway two of them had a listen, the first chap thought it might be a dodgy number one piston Although the intermitancy of the problem went against this in my opinion.

Then had the manager had a listen, and he reckons it may the the sump baffles as they were only attached with four spot welds and can come loose, therefore slightly easier to fix

Has anyone had this happen at all?

Alas this looks lik a time rather than parts issue, so I can't really justify using a main dealer, especially as the costs might are open-ended until the engine is open and the problem diagnosed.

The occurence of the noise has usually corresponded to speed bumps, both when starting and stopping. The last occurences being those bumps when moving towards the Le Shuttle (we'd wondered why the Lambos wete using the lorry lane - no bumps!), but nothing since.

There are two distinct noises one from tickover is a hollow metallic noise resonating at engine revs, a second high pitched tinny noise occurs with higher revs, say 2000rpm and above.

Perforamce has not been affected in any way however, so I have my fingers crossed its nothing too severe...

So no sports exhaust then
