Brake conversion V8s (again)
Discussion
Hi folks,
I know that this topic has been discussed many times but the search option allows only the last two years so I couldn´t find all the stuff...
At the moment there are two conversion kits offered that give you in my opinion a good value for money:
The Wilwood kit with 300mm discs and 4 pot callipers and the HiSpec Kit with 285mm or 300mm discs and 4 pot callipers. All kits are less than 1,000 £.
Do you have any recomedations based on your experience?
It´s just for a little bit more safety at fast road use and to be prepared for an engine upgrade...
Does it make sence to convert the back discs from the 252mm non vented to the 273mm vented ones from the Griffith 500? Does anybody exactly know from what car the callipers are an if they fit without any modifications? Think they´re from 1992-1996 Escort RS Cosworth but I don´t have an item number...
Thanks
Peter

Hansdaal a poster on PH got my rear upgrade parts for conversion from drums to disks. This involved a lot more than it will for you as I have had to change the bearing housing (to give the bolt holes for the caliper), beefier drive shaft ends to match the bearing housings, new vented 273mm dia disks, pads and of course the calipers. From what I can tell from researching the casting nos (051 and 052) they were used on several cars one being the 4x4 sierra RS cosworth. If you look on Barkychocs link you should see Hansdaal's post you could email him as I believe he had some bigger upgrades available or he may advise you on what you need. If I can help anymore let me know.
Good luck
Tony

So I´m a lucky devil because the V8s already has the rear disks
At TVR Shop.com they offer a brake upgrade for the early Griffith...

Am I right that the early Griffith and V8s has got exactly the same rear brakes?!

Personally I'd upgrade the fronts before doing anything with the rears - I'm not that convinced the rears need to be vented on such a lightweight car.
They are the same as early griffs on the V8S - later ones had 260mm (V8S 240mm) front brakes (again these are Sierra spec) and I guess the rears are vented but I really don't know that.
I've gone to 260mm on the fronts - a bolt on dead easy upgrade, but you can go bigger.

I got my brake conversion from hansdaal also, he supplied me with 278mm discs and escort cosworth calipers and pads, the stopping power that gave my V6 S is very very good, considering the weight of the car you could almost say they are unecesary! but in my opinion thet are worth every penny.
Cheers.....Tony..
