Apart from 100 cubic centimetres why else should I want a 2.9 over a 2.8?

(What Im really trying to do is get myself into an S sooner so am asking questions about the S1. The S3 I was after would have been an everyday car as I used to work close to home. New job is 90 mile roundtrip so will use a workhorse (with a rocket up its arse!) and buy a cheaper Tiv).

2.9 runs naturally on UL, 2.9 has a better inlet manifold setup and Engine Management System, 2.9 has a bit more HP..

get a 2.9..

M@H Sorry being a bit cryptic, the 2.9 engine normally came attached to an S2 so had electric windows, electric boot release etc. (unless it was a S1.5)

When the S was being designed the Scorpio 2.9 was available but not used. One reason was the factory had experience of the 2.8 from the Tasmins, but they did try all sorts of alternatives before coming back to the 2.9 when the 2.8 (capri) finally died. Some said Ford wanted COD hence the search for an alternative.

Saw your (or was it Johno's) old car at VW yesterday!
(and Johno's stone chipped Griff).

DustyC The S1 is a nice car, the later cars had more toys, but don't let that put you off. As you've read - condition is all.

Took my S1 out on the S.Hants -> Racing Green/VW run yesterday. It was a bit under engined in the company (V8S, Chimps, Griffiths, Tuscans and Cerbera) but ran fine up to VW and then back to Romsey via Didcot.

Parts are easier to get for the 2.9 (i.e throttle cable)

All IMHO

The other thing is the dash board - single piece with a curve - or more traditional in-line. Advantage of the curved dash is night driving you don't need to look down at the dials just look at the reflections in the windscreen - its like one of those expensive helmets in a fighter jet (well sort off).

That to oneside - I have seen many an S series - it matters not they are all a decade old what matters is condition. I bought an S1 because it was the best I could find. Parts are a little awkward - but because of the Capri and Granada you can find plenty of donors.

Thanks for all the tips people.

I used to prefer the S3 dash but am slowly starting to change over to the older curved one instead.

I definitly prefer the eariest wheels.
I have seen these on a red S2 thats for sale.

Were they standard on S2s? Im guessing thats when they changed over to the multi-spoke ones as on the S3.
