Steering Column Bushes
Discussion
I Have finally got around to doing some winter jobs on my S2, now the weather has warmed a little.
I have started with the job of replacing the Lower Bulkhead Steering Bearing. I have taken out the Steering Column to get the Bearing and Housing out and have discovered two more problems that I need some help with.
Firstly, the infamous yellow connector is missing and the cables have been soldered together; I have had to cut them to get the Column out. Secondly, there is some lateral play internally in the Steering Column itself.
My questions are - Is the Yellow electrical connector still available and can the internal Steering Column bushes be replaced and where would I get them from?
Any help with this would be appriciated.

Thanks for the quick reply, I will have a look in halfords tomorrow.
I have, however, just been on e-bay and found a Sierra Steering Column bush kit and bought one. It looks like the top and bottom Column bushes plus the small plastic bulkhead bush, so we will see what happens when it arrives.

Hi Peter
Firstly I am in the process of breaking an S2 and the column seems fine no perceivable play so if you are interested please send me a PM
Secondaly i did not replace the multi connector just had it soldered up as I think removal of the column is a once in a lifetime job and by fiting an other connector I considered I would be added a point of failure later and its not a big job to unsolder as needed

Hello Norman
Many thanks for your reply. I'm sorry to hear about Gerald's friend, it breaks my heart to see another one bite the dust.
Thank you for the offer of the steering column. I have now ordered some internal bushes for mine, so I will see how I get on with them: the MOT is due in 4 weeks time
. If it all turns to worms I will indeed send you a PM.
On the subject on the connector, I know what you mean and that is probably why mine were soldered together. I am going to try a different tack and use some heavy duty bullet connectors (Yellow). If that fails then it will be out with the soldering iron.
Many Thanks.....Pete

Now I'm stumped
The new Steering Column bushes I bought arrived and so I stripped down the Steering Column to replace them, only to find that they are nothing like the ones fitted. The ones I bought are plastic and the ones originally fitted are of a pressed steel constuction with ball bearings in. See Picture Below-

Can anyone tell me what the Steering Column in the S2 is from and if these bearings are available from anywhere.
Many Thanks.............Pete

Can't see your picture I'm afraid. The car was originally fitted with plain plastic bushes, which wear and are generally horrible. It's a common upgrade to replace these with proper ball race bearings. It sounds as if that is what you have now. These should outlast the rest of the car but if you've managed to wear yours out you need to go to a bearing supplier.

Thanks for the reply. I have changed the formatting of the picture reference. It was now [pic]web adress[/pic], can you see it now.
If you can see the picture, the bearings are completely different sizes and so the new ones will not fit. There is some markings on the rim of the larger one. These are "Germany F-96065 INA ZA".

Success
!
I have just received a pair of brand new upper and lower Steering Column Head Bearings. I went to my local Ford Dealer with my woes and they have delivered. I located the parts on their spares system by using the part number from the steering column shaft, they are from the MkII Sierra. They had to be put on special order, and paid for up front (£21 inc VAT). After convincing myself they would not be the right ones, well they are spot on. The ones that I needed to replace are highlighted on the following picture.

I don't know who looks after the S Series Parts List, but if they read this could they please add the details of these parts to it. The details are:
