Upgrade my Wobbly Knob....

Over the winter I would like to change my (vibrating)Gear Knob, Steering wheel and Handbrake lever etc to Wooden ones.
I have looked through the Leven brochure but they don't seem to have a matched 3.
I've saw various people at VW have one or all of the above.
Where did you get them..??
Has anyone got some..??

It's the "sweaty hands failing to grip the polished wood resulting in a reduced steering input that causes understeer leading to a Pampers moment as hard things start to get close" that put most people off....

Got a wooden wheel... made by personal... came with the car. Real love it / hate it thing with them if you ask people about them... would recommend you drive a car with one before you commit.
How did you manage to restrain yourself Podie?

Most of the after market gear knobs now seem to be secured by three grub screws at the bottom which grip the shaft (c'mon Podie, what're you waiting for??) and are, therefore, not dependant on the exiting thread. IMHO this is a much better arrangement than the old plastic 'self tapping' things you used to get.
The only additional thing I had to do for mine was wrap some tape around the top of the stick itself so that it was a snug fit. Before that, [FinbarrSaunders] whenever I was really going for it, my shaft would start vibrating which made my knob resonate quite badly[/FinbarrSaunders].

As I said.. matter of preference... Mr Heath is not a fan.
I don't like them either. As well as the sweater palms syndrome, they are prone to splinter in a crash and leave shards of wood stuck through your wrists. Leaving aside the looks (which is just a matter of personal preferance) I just don't think they're the right material for the job.

Do you lot have clammy hands or summat?
As for the crash issue, having spent a fair amount of time working in occupant protection... it tends to become irrelevant above 50mph, as you're lucky to get out alive... regardless of what you drive.

I'd expect to survive a 50 mph crash unless something came into the driver's side of the car. Is that unrealistic? (Strong chassis, well braced seat, rollover bar, four point harness.) As for the sweaty hands: you don't want to be in the car when I'm going for it ... and neither do I!

I've never seen a TVR crash tested, and it would be unprofessional of me to give out any names, but let's just say that there are many NEW cars out there, that at around 30mph, you would NOT be walking out of...
Obviously it depends what you are hitting and crash tests are not always a fair indication of "real world" accidents... but you're best off not having on in the first place!
Oh, and the likes of yourself and Mr Heath probably pootle around a bit quicker than myself...
- us "sunday" drivers are happy with a wooden wheel..

Get the mag for the good accesories adverts websites and then go from there.
