Hi I have an S3c and I left it in the garage at home with the hood down for a few weeks when we had the mild weather in mid March. Anyway when I put the hood up last week I noticed that the stitching that fixes the opaque plastic window to the cloth surround had come away only about 3 or 4 inches. Does anyone know where I could get this restitched. I asked the Mrs but she said that her dressmaking kit wouldn't be up to the job. I live in kent and am wondering if I need a specialist for this?
cheers,
Guy

Hi Guy

if its as limited as you say I would invest in some "Uphosterers" needles and strong thread and do it yourself, if you can use the same holes it will be a fairly straight forward job... alternatively you could take it to a local "friendly" upholsterer who would probably do the job in minutes and for buttons (pun intended)

good luck

You might find when you start poking about with it that the stitching is rotten and it turns into a bigger job, especially if the hood is original. eek

Guys if you are coming to S Club this would make a great demo. I'm sure we can find a few car hoods to use!

I used lock stitch to re-do the velcro strips, to do that by hand you need an awl rather than a needle but it does copy what you get if you machine sew it. Its probably easier than trying to use a needle as well because you don't have to pass it right through a few layers of fabric and the plastic window. I made an awl with a sewing machine needle, a bit of connector block and a piece of wood for the handle.

If the roof is on the car its a two man job and a bit of a bore but if you take your time it will come out ok.
