Friday night, work finished, down tools, Tiv out with roof off and set off over A686 over Hartside Pass in the sunshine heading for Silloth to watch the sunset over the Solway... great drive, hardly any other car on the road. Fish and chips overlooking the Solway but no sunset due to fog coming in, never mind... head for home as it got dark but decided this time to leave the roof down... theres definitely something special about driving the Tiv in the dark with the roof down !

Sorry... not really a point to this post except to share a great experience instead of the usual niggle... makes it all worthwhile thumbup

hope you all got out and enjoyed it...

K wink

Hi Kev, last April I set off at 5o`clock am, from South Wales to Salisbury and what a drive, M4, tunnels, then A followed by B class roads. What a way to see the sunrise yesdrivingwoohoo

Definitely. Warm summer evenings with a full moon and a blanket of stars above can make for really special trips.

Its my favorite drive , roof off nothing on the road . If you haven't taken your S out late at night your missing a treat . I often only go out for 15 mins but its worth it .

well now I'm back on TVR ownership I shall try this 'driving in the dark with the roof off'

first I need to master the art of getting the roof back out of the bot though as there is a definite knack to it wink

There is however one catch... Has anyone else noticed how appalling the standard S-Series headlights are? hehe

Fine when you're skimming the hedges on your own, but as soon as someone heads towards you the average car's headlights overpower the TVR's to such an extent that you're almost blinded!

It's a great feeling to be threading your way through the lanes, looking up at the stars and thinking "I could use two of those in my headlights". Summer is best of course; you've got the new mown hay smells that are somehow more rich at night and the cooler evening air is so much more refreshing after the warmth of the day.

And when you stop there is a wonderful silence punctured only by the gentle thrum and burble of a V6 or V8.

And it's easier to leave huge black lines down the road without any coppers seeing. wink

Soon be hayfever time again, one thing air con cars with pollen filters have an advantage over the S on.
Luckily there's antihistamines hippy

Absolutely love it. Its the best time to drive, particularly after a long and hot summers day when the air is cool but its still warm enough to drive in a t-shirt.

And all the people of the lulled and dumbfound town are sleeping now.

Hush, the babies are sleeping, the farmers, the fishers, the tradesmen and pensioners, cobbler, schoolteacher, postman and publican, the undertaker and the fancy woman, drunkard, dressmaker, preacher, policeman, the webfoot cocklewomen and the tidy wives.

Young girls lie bedded soft or glide in their dreams, with rings and trousseaux, bridesmaided by glow-worms down the aisles of the organplaying wood. The boys are dreaming wicked of the bucking ranches of the night and the jollyrodgered sea.

And the anthracite statues of the horses sleep in the fields, and the cows in the byres, and the dogs in the wet-nosed yard; and the cats nap in the slant corners or lope sly, streaking and needling, on the one cloud of the roofs.

You can hear the dew falling, and the hushed town breathing.

Only your eyes are unclosed to see the black and folded town fast, and slow, asleep.

Unfortunately, there is still a TVR-shaped hole in my life. I'll be back though!
