My switchgear veneer panel is looking very sorry for itself.

I could get real veneer put on but I feel this is quite costly. I could buy the panel from a scrapper, again not likely to be cheap.

As the panel is painted, I wonder if there are any vinyl stickers out there with a veneer pattern that may do the job. Of course my main problem would be matching it with the main dash veneered panel.

Any ideas / comments?

Googling it comes up with a couple of products but none are as dark as the S panel.

Hi there,

there was a recent thread about this with before/after pics - looked a really good job and fairly cheap. Can't for the life of me remember who posted it.

I posted some stuff on a refurbish dash thread last year (near bottom of page)

link

The car has been in the garage over the winter, unfortunately the printed fabric wood effect - which looks great, has started to lift away in a few places from the metal dash base.
It's a question of finding the right adhesive to do the job. The fabric I used was self-adhesive which is not strong enough. I'm sure that there are similar fabrics available that aren't self adhesive which, with the right glue would stand the test.

This is still a 'work in progress' but potentially a convincing, affordable, and time-saving alternative.

see my website www.gbsportscar.com I used vinyl, cost under £5 for both main dash and switch panel - not as good as veneer, but much better than TVR original. My supplier link is on the site too. Be aware I am having server problems with the site so keep trying and you'll get through eventually

I might have a first class answer to this as I have had my spare S2 curved dash which was fibreglass painted to look like wood refinished. Have just seen photo of the finish and if its as good in the flesh it will be fantastic.

I will post again when dash recieved should only be a few days but i would say wait till then

Hi

you could try Autostyle by Paul Banham in Rochester 01634 840530

he used to make and sell body conversions and at one time had the original Ford RS200 moulds - I built one 3 years ago but now concentrates on fake veneer items

Wildfire did some in stainless a couple of years ago - so may still have the drawing if that helped.

I have wondered whether with a cad file these chaps Wood dash trims could do anything. I have this kit in my Freelander so can vouch for its quality. The S dash in one piece might be a bit of a bh though.

Redoing the S dash is fairly easy if you use the right materials.I've re veneered a few dashs now including an S awedgeand Chim.

The main thing to remember is to glue some ply, which you get from a model shop,to the metal plate this prevents cracking and gives a far superior finish.

If you want to go this way drop me a line smile

I was chatting to V8SSS (Christian) and his Dad yesterday at Combe and they gave a few ideas. Apparently (I missed his Dad's name but he said...) you can buy veneer from London Carriage Craft so I might look into that.
