erratic speedo

anyone help with this my speedo died a while ago and i replaced the gearbox pickup (S3) and it still didn't work eventually my mechanic got it working. but now get erratic readings ,
it works 99% of the time but then will not register or shoots to 160 MPH ( nice i wish)

Hmm, my speedo was playing up a while back. It sounds drastic but what I did, was to remove the speedo and drill a hole in the side just big enough to get a WD 40 aerosol straw into. Connect the can and give it a squirt, bingo it settled--- for a while!!! don`t forget these machines are starting to age. Oh the speedo doesn`t mist up anymore, all it needed was a bit of lube.
