I know the s has heavy steering at low speeds. Put my symtoms are not constant.
It can feel very heavy at low speeds and moderate speeds but can not tell if my rack is worn, if suspension or bushes are worn or even maybe a brakes issue.

I'm getting some vibration at the sterring

Any suggestions guys. thanks

A geometry set up may help - mine felt completely different after that at all speeds (but I did also rebush the whole front suspension to poly - so this will have been some of the effect as the old ones were completely fcensoredd). Vibration at the SW is probably wheel balance though.

Get her up on stands with the wheels free to move by hand to see if the full movement is free lock to lock (how many turns ?- you might have a "close ratio rack") or has any tight/rough spots, or if there is any play when the wheels are held and the column is "waggled" (I learnt that word from Tim Elfit hehe ) if all is OK there, then have the geometry checked out - tracking, camber etc... are your tyres showing any signs of scrubbing at the edges ?

Thats what I thought too - and they are so cheap and easy to change it might be just worth doing them anyway.
Look at the top of this forum at the useful links thread - you can get the UJ's cheap from rally design.

Thanks guys

The bushes could do with changing but would like to eliminate steering column possibilties first

Does not feel notchy but there is some play at the steering wheel (3mm) and is about the same at the bulkhead. So i can waggle it a bit. What needs changing to stop this?

I will check the rack over the weekend

Could be Bulkhead bearing...

check out Pies site here and look for the "How To" for replacement procedure

http://www.tvrsseries.com/

Norman was touting some more robust bearing Housings recently I believe, so might be worth PM'ing him.

TVR Carparts sell the standard type replacement bearings... which I think are Sierra anyway ?

3mm at the steering wheel doesnt sound bad to be honest

As a basic thought just spray the 2 Ujs with some spray grease and see if it makes any difference - you should do that every now and then anyway so nothing to lose and it may help.
