hoping for some good news from you guys.

After a night spend under the car (my pet hate)
I have refitted the handbrake cable, it pulls tight on 3rd click but is too stiff to pull up any further (with a mighty push i can still move the car slightly) hoping after bedding the drums back in properly it will work a little better..

Any way I can now fit the propshaft, well the point is I cant.
Cant see any way it fits. In the bible it says to undo the four bolts, drop it down and slide out the splined ends, there is no way it can drop down enough to allow the spline to go back in Im over an inch short. On my chassis there is a cross member about an inch infront of the diff flange that stops the prop dropping down.

If someone tells me I have to take the engine and box out to fit it Im going to die!

HELP

Somewhere, try the gearbox removal chapter (thats another story), think it says you can jiggle the flanged end up past the diff enough to slip the gearbox end in. I couldn't so found easiest way was to drop the "nose" of the diff by removing two large (and very tight) bolts that go vertically up into the chassis, now you can feed the flanged end up there enough to engage the splined end.

HTH.

Hi Mike,

How did you remove it in the first place??

Seriously, I've no direct experience of this but I seem to recall reading that it involves manoeuvring the tail end ABOVE and behind the diff to get the nose end in. Had a quick 'search' but couldn't find the post.
Be patient - someone else will come up with the answer soon, I'm sure.

Good luck!

Forgot to mention the flange bolts should be "Loc-tited" in, you may notice bolts look blue, this is Fords version of Loc-tite, new bolts are pre coated, makes life easier on assembly line at factory.

i bought it in bits so didnt have the pleasure of removing it.
Might try swinging the diff down to give enough clearance above it.
Why is it everything that should be a 10 minute job seems to take ages!
Hopefully as the diff was recently refitted with new bolts they might undo fairly easilly.

Any more tips?

Instructions on removal are here. Refitting is just the revers it will take less than 10 mins to do - easy when you know how.

I assume yours is a V6 as the V8 propshaft is different

Yep thats how I did it.
Problem with a single garage is it take me 10 minutes to move the car a bit jack it up, have a brew, put the radio on, get my tools out (ooerrrr) get under the car 5 times to get the right size spanner or socket extension, undo stuff, then fiddly around with a jack to lift the diff back up, a couple more brews pack it all away again.
Glad I don't charge myself for my time! And thats assuming you dont run into any seized bolts.

Now I know how to do it it probably is 10 minutes once you'r under the car!

The V8 has a telescopic propshaft, I think its a Range Rover front prop to allow axle movement on a RR, dead easy to remove and replace.
