I have posted my tales of woe about three break downs in my first month with the S2 and a series of other problems. Have now had a whole week with no probs and I have forgiven it (will take much longer for the wife to forgive me for buying it).
The first owner called me to explain he had a Fast Road Kent cam fitted which explains the lumpy tickover.I have enjoyed a couple of longish trips this week and the performance in the 3k revs plus area is fantastic so I suppose that's where it will have to stay.
I am finally converted.

Yep sounded like you had a Kent 276 in it. Not great really as the 286 is better with the same idle characteristics, but better than the standard cam. Unfortunately I have been told that the 276 is the hottest cam you can get into the Cologne as the con rods won't take any more.

Good to hear you've gotten over all of your problems. Just take the wife out for a good hoon and all will be forgiven. Especially if it's a nice day and the top can go down.

Good news.. How come the seller didn't mention the cam when you bought it..

Cheers
Matt.

I am the third owner, the guy I bought it from only kept it for 3 months and said he thought it had a 'pepped up engine'. I got the original owners' address from the log book and he called me with the details. He had the car for 13 years- is that a record for a Tiv?

Id be keen to hear from you what the difference is with that Kent Cam in it. I guess you wont know until youve been in a standard one or have you driven a few already ?

Cheers

Same here actually. I am tempted to swap the cams over in the summer for the Kent Items, but not being a great fan of Kent Cams I'm not too sure what they drive like.So would love to hear what they are like?

Like you say, it's hard to tell unless you have driven a standard car but compared with my old Taimar the power delivery is in a much narrower band and when it kicks in you feel like it is a different car. I am hugely impressed with the performance but you do have to live with a very lumpy tickover and poor running at low speed. If you do most of your driving in town forget it, if you, like me, live and drive in the country well it is probably worth it for the sheer grin factor- can't wait to get it on the track.
