My steering wheel needed attention, the metal ring inside the wood
had gone rusty, and started to split the wood. So i split it in two, cleaned the rust off, and re-stuck
together again

Now, hours and hours of cleaning, sanding, glueing, clamping, laquering
this is as far as i got.

Why did i stop?

When you see it, you'll spit your coffee all over your keyboard

Well on the basis that its now unuseable - I'd try and split it apart as soon as possible before the glue has had chance to go off completely (even if its been a few days the sooner you do it the better).
Even if you split it a bit if you're careful you may be able to reglue it without it showing.

Plonker hehe

Mikee boy, idea thinking about it now, i could've fitted it the other
way, and got one of those knob/handles that forklift trucks have on
the steering wheelbiggrin

Chris, it's already in bits (lots of bits) i used several types of glue.
wood glue pva, to do the easy stuff, super glue (said very quietly, hoping
no one heard) to do small fiddly bits, a mixture of celulose laquer and
fine saw dust as a filler, then as you can see in the 3rd picture, i had done a few coats of laquer laugh

Steve, you say funny, did you spit your coffee all over your keyboardbiggrin

Norman, thanks for the link (i lurnt how to do them linky things, by
mistake the other day) but i'm fairly confident, i managed it 1st time,
although, this will be a bit harderbangheadlaugh

Mark/steve, you say we've all done it, cheer me up and shareearsbiggrin

Anyway, glad i brightened up, only what can be described as a dull day, for
you all.

I will do more photos of the restoration, and hopefully keep you all smiling.

Anyway off to the woods to cut down a tree, while it's dark
whistle

When I was an apprentice I fitted 2 Drive end roller bearings to a 750hp electric motor problem was I had to forgotten to put the inner grease plate on 1st, they were a shrink fit and had to be destroyed to remove them (outer race is seperate so cant be drawn off) cost??? £960 in 1981.
At least you didn't have to stand in front of the MD and explain your actions.
I'm sure he probably looks back and smiles about it now.

Old friend of mine when an apprentice drove a Bently off a four post lift - while it was up - jammed the nose of the car through the wall and it was suspended for nearly a week with the back wheels on the ramp and the radiator embedded in the wall.He was shouted at quite a lot!!!!!
