Impressed as I was by Normans hinges I decided to "go my own way" and this is the result. apart from not being in stainless biggest difference is I've put then on the inside of the plywood to greatly reduce the length of the pivot bolt and thereby hopefully reduce chance of flexing or bending

All seems to work ok, if bonnet flies off on way to SCH I'll let you all know !

Good idea to turn the hinges around, the ones I have had made up can be installed in the 'phiipot' way, I think many will have to shorten the hinge bolts anyway. But I think I would suggest that a plate be installed to spread the load now on the outside of the bonnet panel.

And there's me thinking I'll be inundated with people asking where I got those neat little plastic caps to hide the messy square tube bit !
Well I'll tell you anyway, they are used to cap off the ends of a metal bracket system called Unistrut or Metstrut, little bit like giant Meccano.

Nice chassis, is it painted, powder coated or what?

Thankyou, its just paint, brand name Rustoleum. peeled, scrapped wire brushed and sanded off any powder coat that would come off and left on any that was still well attached, coat of red oxide then the red gloss. only done bulkhead forward, plan is to do 2 or 3 inch body lift later in year to do outriggers, drop fuel tank and as much of back end as I can get at !
Strangely enough was just wondering today wether anyone had tried galvanising an S chassis, this was popular for replacement Elan chassis' but they are a lot of flat steel rather than tubes ?

I remember reading a while ago about somebody who'd hot dip galvanised a (Chimaera, I think) chassis successfully, but it's generally regarded as a very dodgy proposition due to the high risk of chassis distortion.

I had my chassis shot blast back to the metal then the powder coaters gave it a zinc coat before the powder coat. It's obviously not galvanised but where I have since foolishly scratched the paint the zinc coat was not damaged and seems quite hardy.

Yes they do tidy that area up a lot. I fitted some that I "rescued" from an old office partition system chucked in a skip at work.

K wink

yes and you need to ensure you preserve that area well but at least you can control where these bits are and keep a close eye on them
