Evening all.

Does anyone have any ingenious ways of attaching a GB sticker to an S such that it:

  • stays on for the duration and
  • comes off easily without marking the paintwork
I'm off to Le Mans on Thursday and this is one of the many little jobs still to do. . .

hi, as an ex printer, the sticker may say on the back...
Perminant or Removable... that should sort that....

if it's removeable, it should'nt take ya paint off with it when you take it off. if it says perm, in any shape or form, beware, perminant is wot it sez.

As far as getting your sticker in the right place, we used water and washung up liquid, chuck a load of this on your car, roughthly where the sticker has to go, then you should be able to slide ti into possition, when water 'n' washing liq has dried, the sticker should stay put.....

Beware!!!!!! The perminant has perminant on it for a reason

good luck

Survived the journey there and back last year without defacing the back of the S with a GB plate.

I honestly think the gendarmes will be too busy with their speed guns to worry too much about national plates..other alternative is to stick one of those little Halfords GB stickers on the edge of the rear numberplate - shows that you were atleast thinking about it ...

Latest style number plates which include the GB badge are OK you only need the white and black oval sticker if you dont have the new style plates

Agree with above - I've not bothered with one for my last 3 visits, although I've had one in the car so if stopped I can try and blag it by saying I forgot to put it on. Same goes for the headlamp stickers.

If you'd rather have one just get a "static cling" type. They will stay on the car but come off really easily. Even the ones with adhesive come off ok (like the various Le Mans stickers you can buy) if you warm them with a hairdryer first wink

Have a great weekend. Gutted not to be going this year......

Wifey suggests a magnetic one but I had to point out one slight drawback to her cunning plan...

If using "standard" oval sticker cut off half inch all round off backing paper and leave middle bit on. Enough sticky to hold it on but lot less sticky when it comes to peal off !

A couple of thoughts - when I went to Le Mans a few years ago I did the RAC European cover and the GB sticker that came with it was used; a friend said to take the backing off and then put a very small amount of vaseline on the sticky side before fixing to the car. I did that and it stuck fine and also came off easily with the vaseline etc wiping off very easily indeed. (A side benefit of that is that you can take it off and put cling film over it or stick it onto something else suitable and then be able to reuse it again - friend has apparently used one for 3-4 trips incl taking it off between trips).
Another thought is to get a sticker for the side of the plate - like the ones that say GB at the left hand side - I saw a Chim with one of those on the plate at Tatton show ready for Le Masns but I'm not sure where he got it from.

BTW dont forget headlamp converters, and Hi Vis jackets in the car not the boot and a set of bulbs and a warning triangle. All legal requirements for motoring in france.

Any form of radar detector is illegal and will be confiscated with a hefty fine, GPS based eg TomTom OK i believe.

France is a wonderful country only spoiled by ................................
