Are these used just because they look better or anyone reckon they do a better job ? ( my standard stays seem to lock the roof nice and tight )

They do look a LOT better in my view. Although they are more sturdy they do not necessarily hold the roof any better. Apart from looks the other big advantage is they will not go rusty and don't rattle annoyingly like my old ones did wink

They're slightly longer, so you need to drill new holes / enlarge existing holes in the rear wall.

You can get rid of the squeaks in the old style stays by carefully (!) pouring superglue into the joints to take up the wear. Keep them moving while it sets. This lasted about 2 years until they started squeaking again.

That is a new one! You should patent it as "No More Slack Joints"!

Not exactly new - I did it in the 1990's before I got the ally stays for £12 a pair (slightly scratched - removed from a Griff at the factory during final fix). smile

That was on a factory visit when your car was kept in the yard as a hack for TVR.

I bought a pair of Chim stays as mine were cracking in the corners, by the rivets, the new ones are of thicker material.

it was not for looks but sturdyness, but they do look good.

Cheers

You will only get then from a breaker I think,

http://www.bellhillgarage.com/
http://www.douglasvalley.co.uk

BUT they will be expensive

Your best bet is to look at PH adverts/TVRCC adverts/eBay for a chim/griff being broken - they will turn up eventually eg http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1079878.htm

What are they like in fitting in the boot? I would think the roof in two halfs are more compact?

Hi Luke we're just talking about the stays not the roof panels
