Any kind hearted S owners near(ish) Southampton
Discussion

I'm going to be looking for an S in the next few months but I realised having never poked round one and seen things like these famous outriggers and trailing arms I'll have to see a few before I know what I'm looking at.
So that I don't let that perfect one slip through my fingers when it does come time for me to buy mine I was wondering if anyone on here with an S within an hour or 2 of Southampton would mind giving up an hour or so to show me round one.
I'm a member of the TVRCC and i'm going to go along to the Hampshire meet in July but I'm inpatient and i'm not even sure if anyone with an S will be there.
Thanks all and I look forward to joining the Club properly soon!
Tom
Afternoon OD,
I'm in Poole but could meet you halfway (Ringwood?) and you can have a good old nose at mine. It's what you'd call a good sound car : pretty presentable but not show and does feature some fairly typical 'S' traits......good and bad!
PM me or just reply here and we'll sort something out. I was a bit of a TVR novice and came from a TR6 so I've got to know the car pretty well. 18 months in a I still think it's a great car but also stunning value. I'd always wanted an S, ever since first seein one in Bath about 15 years ago.

Tom,
I am in Tidworth, near Andover, which is 30 mins from Southampton (I used to live there). Welcome to have a look at/drive of mine if you fancy. It has had all the usual work done (new trailing arms, roof etc and I may well be selling soon as I spend too much time away to use it.
Cheers
Dan

Thanks for all the replies, didn't realise that there were so many S's around!
I will visit anyone who is offering, would like to see as many as possible. Have a feeling I may not be able to keep my hand out of my wallet as soon as I see one for sale though. Got the Bible delivered today and it seems there a lot of variation between even the same year so I have no idea what I want other than the fact I like the S2 dash.
Cheers,
Tom

That is an amazing dash! I think I would be scared of marking it. Although saying that I think it would make me keep the car clean and tidy.
gifdy - Seeing a chassis in need of repair would be very useful. When I look at pictures I can never tell the difference between corroded and about to fall apart as opposed to just plain dirty. I'll send you a PM when I get home from work.
On another note I have just had a ring round some insurers and most said I had to be 30+ for a TVR and Adrian Flux quoted me £4000+
Obviously being 23 in charge of an S is frowned upon.
Oh well, have to keep looking...

Hi,
I live in Dibden Purlieu. Used to have a V8S.
Probably worthwhile getting a V8S - you'll wish you had later!!
A lot of people use Hagerty for insurance.
PM me if you need any help. I'm busy at work for next 2 weeks but could maybe do an evening to look at a localish car.

What have you got now? Is it you in the Blue Chim ?
Dean
Well the lowest quote I have had so far is £2800 if I 'bend' the truth which I don't really want to do! Worrying thing is that the guy at the insurance company suggested that if I didn't inform them of the crash I had a year or so ago (which was not my fault due to the muppet driving the other car but legally was my fault) then it would be £2800, otherwise £3600. Either way its a silly amount to pay and I can't afford it anyway.
Was hoping a classic insurer would take me for £5-800 ish. Hagerty don't take under 25's apparently although that is from the insurance wiki not from actually phoning them. So far Heritage and Manning said must be 30+ and A-one said 25+. Not looking good at the moment but I know people my age have TVRs (ie The Lukas) but I may have to wait 16 months
to get a decent quote. Saying that I would be able to get a V8S then
To gifdy and nawarne, I would love a V8S but my budget is about £4K so an S2 is more appropriate unless I want a dog of a V8!
Apologies if this doesn't make any sense, I'm drowning my sorrows in wine/beer!
BTW thank you for the great response from everyone, looking forward to finally getting an S so I can join the community properly!
Oh and to people who have emailed me I will get back to you ASAP but unless you want a nonsensical reply it may have to be tomorrow!
Cheers all,
Tom

Yup, Avus Blue Chim 450....that must have been you I waved at? Red S3 heading North on A326 couple of Saturdays ago?
Wondered where you were based. I have spoken to another S3 owner (at Applemore Rec.) - but he also runs a Griff as well....or is that you?

Tom,
Check out the TVR general or Chimaera forums. 'Lewis Sharman' runs a Chimaera and I believe he is 19 (?) - might be worth while sending him a PM. I think it might help saying the TVR is a second car and agreeing limited mileage.
However, I do realise the problems. The main issue that most insurers see is that TVRs are light'ish cars, rear wheel drive with a fairly grunty engine. Don't give up. Without a doubt, it is worth speaking to the brokers, rather than doing something on-line.
