Progress is slow on my S rebuild.
But managed to get a good half day in the garage on monday.
I have now have a plumbed in cooling system with no leaks! I think!
The exhaust downpipes are on and the gearbox/chassis cross member is back in.
So the to do list stands at:
Chassis to body bolts
Speedo cable
Main exhaust pipe
Fit Seats
Interior bits and pieces
Horn
Washer squirts
Bonnet release cable
A few evenings work then...
Any tips for fitting the exhuast to the down pipes, as I have a feeling they are not gong to slide nice and easy and as you can't rotate them as there are two pipes there must be a technique?

Some exhaust paste may help a bit - Halfords do it.Mike
Good to see things are moving along.
Having tried to take the under body exhaust off previously, i became frustrated by the a rear chassis cross member that wouldnt allow enough space for the exhaust to slide off. result was to take the down pipes off just after the manifolds and drop the lot to the floor. now mine was complicated by bust u clamps that resulted in manifolds off as well, but the intended rebuild sequence will be manifolds on, under body section rehung, downpipes slid onto underbody section and pushed up into relevant manifold.....obviously thats just theory at present.

Hi Mike
I think the key to it is to ensure they are a good fit off the car before struggling below it. Mine were mis-shapen and damaged ends so they would have been a mare to try and fit like that. With as much as possible off the car (I appreciate you will not want to take your manifolds off again) make sure the pipes are round, not flared at the ends, have no burrs and are the correct diameters for a smooth fit on the bench. You certainly dont want to be hammering, twisting and straining the downpipes/manifold as you struggle to get ill-fitting pipes to mate.
Personally I would not use paste as I bet you will have the zorst off a few times in the first 12 months of ownership... and as said elsewhere use Mikalor clamps.
good luck
