I telephoned Hexam Horseless Carriages about the car, and they reckoned it is too bad to be patched. They said the tube would need to be replaced. I didn’t argue, but didn't think you could replace the tube in question (the large one that the trailing arm mounts to). Also, phoned DG to check this point, they said if it wasn't too corroded and only a small hole, it could be patched, otherwise a new chassis would be needed. This is because you would never be able to weld a new tube in correctly, and it cant be jigged.

It may be worth a look though. If I was closer i would have been there yesterday

Moral of the story-

Look after your chassis, that car had £2000 spent on it all to be undone by a failing chassis.

Don't skimp on the hammerite and waxoyl before and after every winter.

It would be interesting how much attention/love and care had been lavished on that chassis.

The previous owner may well have spent many hours work looking after his pride and joy but couldn't avoid the inevitable.
If this is the case, things could look bad for all of us.
But then, it may well have been left unused for a year or so in a damp garage or outside which would explain.

It would be very useful to know the circumstances.
