In the other thread I said:
Only slight problem is that a Sierra turbo kit won't fit: it's designed for the exhaust going down the rear of the engine not the front and the manifold / turbo combination is wider than the space available in an S and would foul the bulkhead / inner wing.

What you would need to do is fit a turbo to one side of the downpipes (or both!) in front of the engine not in the manifold itself. Long intake / exhast tracts might make it a bit "laggy" though.

Don't now too much about it myself - this was what I was told at a car show 3 years ago by a man who used to fit turbo kits in their heyday.

Not saying it can't be done - just it's not as simple as fitting the Sierra parts...

Hmm trickier than i thought then, i knew it wouldn't be a direct swop over but i assumed with a bit of modification it could be done.

I've just had a look at my spare engine and it looks like the manifolds could be swopped from one side to the other(it doesn't have any manifolds on, just looking at where they're bolted on), i wonder if doing this the turbo kit could be fitted as then the exhaust would go down the front of the engine not the back. Some mods may still be required to get it in as there isn't that much space.

I think you're right, that would definitely be the first step, but as you say, even then there really isn't much space.

I am pretty sure that one or both of the exhasut manifolds on the S1 is a 2.3 cortina V6 manifold.
I can't remember how or why I know this, so could be wrong.

They are.

Not sure they are the same as the 2.8 Sierra ones though.

The 2.9 manifolds are definitely completely different.

I seem to think the 2.3 manifolds were more compact than the others of the time due to the narrow cortina engine bay.
A friend of mine had one and the engine was a very tight fit in there.
