This looked ok earlier in the year when I took it off during my failed attempt to remove gearbox ( but I know how now thanks to PH rather than 30 quids worth of book), anyway gearstick does seem to "kick around" a bit so maybe has gone soft ?
Think it looked like these (ebay 280384371508 or 300338235485) or our friends at Rally Design do a serious looking job part no. FOR168MX

Any pictures of original to compare or comments on upgrade units would be much appreciated.

When I picked up my car the gear stick moved a lot and the bolt through the gearbox mount was loose. Might be worth a look. There is a note about it on my website under the 10 Aug 2006 entry.

Shouldn't be anything loose, because I put it all back together ! ( but will check )

Read your diary entry, your comment on cheap spanners interested me, I generally find the opposite, quality tools made from superior metal so thinner whereas cheap ones use ccensoredp metal so are thicker

The first ebay listing is the one I bought. I found mine failed shortly after refitting as well, resulting in the gearbox trying to shake itself off the car when accelerating up a steep twisty hill on Dartmoor. I think it is the usual disturb it and it'll fail leave it alone it'll be ok when old.

First one looks the part,

from my hunting for a replacement,

original Ford Finis ; 6145436 ; obsolete
Motorcraft ; 1454275 or 72HF 6068 AA ; obsolete : the relevant part of the 72HF 6068 AA number is the 6068 part which needs to be correct. Also stamped on mount was Getefo12

Quinton Hazell ; EM1536 ; £14.99 (Equivalent 6068) cost from local supplier
Quinton Hazell ; EM1536 ; £9.99 ; £12.49 including P&P; see southwalesprops.co.uk for quinton hazell pictures.

gear box being Ford type 9 or N, bell housing has an E cast in the side
