Recently been driving quite a bit in countries which require day time lights and keep getting flashed by the locals when I forget. I fitted a "lights left on" buzzer, but is there a simple mod for a '91 S3 to allow DLR, like a relay, or is there a recommended mod to use the fogs instead? Thanks for any help.

I will to find out what was performed from my mechanic. Give me a few days

All you need is a relay.

Wire the relay coil to an ignition switched supply and the relay contacts across the terminals for the sidelights.

Whenever the ignition is on the sidelights will be on, unless the rules dictate something different has to happen for your equivalent of the UK annual MOT test.

Hmmm food for thought Barkychoc. But I think that the illumination has to be a bit beefier, something like min 21watts and the side lights are 5watts, if I recall correctly? Let me know if I'm wrong as its too dark to go outside and check now.
Also how could I avoid the electrical load of the lights until the engine has started? Ideally only front lights would come on rather than front and rear. The more I think about it the more complicated it seems to be unfortunately.

No idea how you would wire it but surely you can just set it up so that with the headlights on the sidelights are off with the ignition off, and with the sidelights on they are on with the ignition off.

If you need sidelights when parked up just switch to sidelights, all other times just leave the headlights on. It won't waste your battery and saves you forgetting.

I have a Volvo over here in the UK and just leave the lights on the whole time as it's easier and I don't forget to turn them on when it's dark and the wiring in that does as I have described above.
