Ok so I've taken over from Ian Longden as the lead for SCH 2010 and as the other organisers have also decided to bow out this year I am looking for some volunteers to help me. Idealy I would like 2 or 3 to allow one to concentrate on Raffle Prizes and Charity Liaison, one to Deal with merchandise/souvenirs and company attendance/stands allowing me (and a third if forthcoming) to concentrate on Venue, Accomodation, the obligatory run, competition prizes, admin for the day etc etc.
This should not really be a great deal of work if there are three or four of us but to do it alone could prove troublesome, therefore please step forward by appending your name below, emailing me at mark@gbsportscar.com or via PM.
Of course before I sign off I would like to again thank Ian and co for their organisation over the last few years despite the fact I've not been able to make the actual day since getting the S due to work commitments on each occasion.
I look forward to the wave of volunteers

Well done on picking up the baton Mark
As Barkychoc, Mycroft, Dave M, Gozzy and myself know from our experience it is possible to organise S Club all on your own but is a lot easier with a small group. If things are shared the burden on any one person is minimal. And don't worry, as long as there is someone at the helm (Mark in this case) to co-ordinate you do not need any particular skills, just enthusiasm. I've also sent Mark our planner/task list so you will not necessarily be starting from scratch, although new ideas are always a good thing!
I'll step back now and let this thread fill up with volunteers to support Mark

Curious Mark...
What part of the country ?
I live in Plymouth, work in Bristol and intend SCH to be either in Blackpool or the Midlands, current venues I'm pursuing are the Pleasure Beach, Midlands Motorcycle museum and a couple of Air Museums (as I'm military I may be able to get access to a runway - but here's hoping)What part of the country ?

Hi all, I live in isolated Norfolk and can only spare the time to help with minor tasks.
One thing I can provide is access to a telephone conferance facility so we can all talk on one conversation.
Regards Gary
Thanks Gary, that facility could prove useful, have added you to my only other volunteer - come on everyone enjoys this just looking for one more to help!!!One thing I can provide is access to a telephone conferance facility so we can all talk on one conversation.

Mark,
Happy to lend a hand if I can. At this year's event we raised an outstanding amount for my wife's charity so it would be good to be able to give something back for the next one.
Live near Reading but have family near Plymouth and Tiverton so I'm a fairly frequent visitor to the SW.
Cheers

I've been off line for a while and am catching up slowly
Well done Mark
.
One thing that a person remote to you could do is request raffle prizes / donations as you can communicate on that electronically etc.
An airfield would be a great idea although there would be issues regarding clearance in advance so attendees details would need to be 1-2 weeks in advance (depending on local base).
Certainly Wattisham, Woodbridge (2 mile straight!) and Marham (see East Anglia thread for event in October) host events and no doubt others do. Sadly they're not exactly central or easy to get to though.

When organising S Club for 08 we met up monthly, which was made easier because we lived pretty locally to each other. However in 09 due to other commitments we were only able to meet a couple of times before the event and then not all of us could make it at the same time.
As Dave has said not meeting face to face was not a problem though because emails & phone calls meant we could liase effectively with companies donating raffle prizes, the charity, the venue, each other, etc....
We didn't even get to see the venue for 09 before the day of the meet!
Where you live shouldn't make a difference to getting involved and supporting Mark

Thanks for the offers to date, I have a few willing victims (although of course others can still get involved) and I have a few venues in the process of negotiation although a some want to charge us for attendance (by head not as a group) therefore to help me narrow down the field could I have an indication of what people would be prepared to pay to attend the event if part of a larger motor related event - MY AIM IS FREE I hasten to add, but this will potentially allow me to rule out some locations as too costly for a good event. I suggest we vote for the max you would pay in the following amounts: Free, £5, £10, £15 per person.
Personally £10 is what I would be prepared for but as stated I am aiming for a free event as in past years and will only go for a charging venue if there is not a suitable zero cost alternative
Cheers

It's hard to gauge this.
I was disappointed about the negative comments made before Diamond Rock which had a small charge but was a unique event.
A charge in advance could encourage some to attend who may wiver on the day. It may put some off. Some may say they would pay for this but not for that.
I like the idea of some 'other' attraction, most useful if there is poor weather and perhaps to entertain friends / relatives etc.
I wouldn't mind a small charge, to me it wouldn't matter what the attraction was as I will be coming for the drive there, to see people and have a chat etc. Obviously, if the attraction were something I liked, it would add to the experience, but one that didn't interest me would not harm it (hope that makes sense!).
I liked the idea of some of the other model events, having some form of social function to focus on, the BBQ or whatever. However, they have a major advantage in that they have greater numbers to draw on.

People,
I believe the tried and tested formula from the last 2 years is the basis for a great event. Although a twist is always welcome.
Gaydon for instance had the Heritage Centre if you wanted it but was a free event if not. Newark had lots to do and see. Personally I would pay a tenner if I liked the event. However we must be aware of the overall cost (merchandise, raffle etc)
For me the venue should be as central as possible.
Be arranged over 2 days with camping and nearby B&Bs for those who want it
The main event on the second day must include the hoon - brilliant fun - but beware most organisers dont like cars coming and going (health and safety)
cheers gary
