The Weakest Link

Well as per my previous post I sorted the Bottom Hose out, bled the system and went for a 60+ mile drive today, wonderfull, Got back, parked the car and after a few moments heard a faint hissing, checked the bottom hose (again) and found that the top hose as now blown at the Jubilee clip.
Now I tried to get one of these the other day just in case, and was told that both the QH and the Vauxhall numbers are classed as discontinued. So, does anyone know where I can get one.
Its the Large Dia pipe above the wet one thats gone, pic' is a bit deceiving

Hi Ken, if it helps i took my old hose to andrew page motor factors. The guy there was kind enough to search thru the stock of hoses to find something similar. We didnt get an exact match [the straight each side of the bend was too long ] but i just cut it down to size. Worth a try, good luck.

Exactly what I did for that hose (except it was my own local motor factor, obviously!) - found one that had the right shape of kink in it, then cut the ends off.

nope,an had a cardboard box full of unlabelled bits of hose. He let me have a rummage then charged me a quid.

Ken have you got a bit of excess system pressure going on, so every time you fix it it blows somewhere else?
Just a thought, more likely to be tired hoses I guess.

No I dont think so to be honest, what happened is that for some time I have been topping up regularly and decided to do something about the leaky pressure caps, I think that now I have sorted those the pressure is finding the weakest components. Looking at the hoses they're probably original ones so I will no doubt end up replacing the lot over the next few weeks.Even the metal hose on the bottom one disintegrated when I took the rubber hoses off.
It was interesting to note that the car ran cooler than ever before yesterday, so the cap replacement has worked, or will eventually.
I've managed to locate a new top hose via the internet this morn so should have it sorted soon.
Another company said they can get them but only in a bulk buy of 100, I've asked them to tell me what the price would be based on me buying that quantity, so if I get a reply I'll post it and see who would be interested.

With this list of cars look on ebay for people selling hoses.
I found a few when I was looking a year or so ago.

It appears that the only weak links were the top and bottom hoses, took the car out for a long run yesterday, plenty of hot "in traffic " driving as well, the cooling system has been transformed totally. The engine now runs on average a few degrees cooler than it has in the 4 years i've owned it, the coolant level remains constant and the electric fan has a much quicker effect. It really is/was worth replacing those 2 pressure caps, even if it highlights a few other shortcomings.
I note a few people have commented in the past on the proximity of the top hose to the fan belt, this wasnt a problem for me but if you have that problem then Burton power do a sprung accessory that fits over hoses and holds them in position , may be usefull in some applications.
