Distributor Cap

Thought I'd treat the V6 to a new Dizzy Cap and rotor arm the other day and when I enquired I was told that these parts are getting harder to obtain as time goes on, anyway after shopping around I have got hold of them via different part numbers to those in the Alternative parts List,
The Distributor Cap is an
Intermotor 46943 OR
CI (Commercial Ignition, Nuneaton) ref XD336
The Rotor Arm I obtained as part ref PR7892 from Ignition Car Parts in North Ockenden

I put on a new dizzy cap last year and got it from the local Motaquip stockist - (this is the Peugeot all make parts brand) and they had the normal ones with female fittings as well as the male fittings ones and rotor arms, etc.

I have a brand new dissy cap with male connectors if anyone wants one for the cost of postage... I couldnt give it way at SCH09 so I dont expect a rush, but first come first served...

I've been doing some digging on this and found that Motaquip are phasing out all these old ignition parts, but Intermotor still seem to be supplying. You can go to the Intermotor online catalogue and search with picture results and cross-refernces to OEM part numbers. Here is what I have found...

Intermotor part numbers:
2.9 V6 with Ford Motorcraft distributor
Rotor arm: 47741
Distributor cap, female connections: 46943
Distributor cap, male connections: 45310

2.8 V6 with Bosch distributor
Rotor arm: 48770S
Distributor cap female: 44010

I hope this helps out anybody and obviously do your own checking to confirm. I don't know how to update the alternative parts list.

My local Motaquip factor was very helpful, but said that demand for these sort of parts is almost non-existant, hence supply is getting turned off. I can imagine many cars soon going to scrap just for lack of basic service parts.

It does seem to me that the distributor is running very close to the bulkhead and if your engine mountings are loose or badly aligned, the cap could get damaged.

Picking up my new cap & arm tomorrow from localish motor factors, hope it cures the misfire!

I put a new one from Motaquip on last year (the one with the male fittings on the cap - Part No VDC245) thought I'd get another one for when I may need it - just in case - so went to the local Motaquip factor this morning and he has ordered it for me. I'll have it tomorrow am so if anyone wants one they do seem to have some left (last time it was £7.50 + vat).

PS I know I nearly always use the Motaquip bits; the reason being the local factor is v helpful and stocks their stuff and also claims to give a discount - eg just got a VFL313 oil filter for the 2.9 engine (fits OK clearance-wise etc) for £3.57 +vat so not bad price.
