I have had fitted a replacement SAAB 9000 brake servo thanks to phillpot giving me his old (and in quite good codition) one. But have had a problem arrising the rubber gator, see below, has slipped and is allowing air to enter giving a poor tickover and a bit of a noise.

On the old servo the gator is firmly fixed but I cant see how. I need to refix it on the replacement - any ideas please

Is it just glued on?
Can't you pull the old one to bits and see if it is no good anyway?

Are you pointing at that set of bellows? Surely that's just to keep muck out and has nothing to do with holding vacuum. (That should all be done by the diaphragm and associated gubbins inside.)

Got to agree with GreenV8S, think thats just a dust bellows ?
As I understand it a servo works by applying a vacuum ( or a negative pressure to be more accurate) to both sides of a diaphragm until pedal is depressed which releases vacuum on push rod side of the diaphragm allowing atmospheric pressure to push on it thereby boosting the drivers efforts.

So, could it be that the pushrod needs adjusting, maybe its holding whatever valve sort of gubbins there is inside partially open ?

Just "thinking outloud" coz pretty sure it was working ok on my car so somethings got to have changed between cars ? ? Was only replaced coz wanted Fiesta set up with, IMHO, close coupled reservoir rather than that messy Saab set up !

Clarity achieved - the bellows also has a seal between the inner plastic parts and the the outer case

The end of the bellows shown above should be inside the bit of the case below it. I have compared it to the old one.

So I had the old servo shot blasted

Bcensored it, it was falling appart (I suspected that and that was why I wanted to change it) so I clamped the two parts together and repaired the lower half of the joint with fbreglass, and painted it. Put the old repaired one back in the car and bingo. all is fine.

Just need to sort out he seal on the replacement and then do a swap, what a Faff

I will be changing my servo for the Ford setup before it goes on the road. So if you want my old Saab one you are welcome.
