Finally found the cause of the recent poorly running.. no compression in 1 of the cylinders. B*lls. Having fitted plenty of news bits without any improvement, I felt something more major was wrong - at least now I know!

Ed have you adjusted the tappets?
Just a thought - if you have a valve not closing properly due to a wrong clearance it would lose compression.
Worth trying simple things first before you comdemn the engine.

No work on it as yet, but yes you're right that's 1st thing to try. My previous S had a lead thingy spliced into the fuel line so it was safe running on 95 fuel. This doesn't so that my be a factor here.

Out of interest, is a 2.9 a straight swap over?

btw... do the 2.8 S's have a rev limiter? Am now wondering whether some, erm, spirited driving caused the problem.

One of the problems with ebay is that if the original advertiser has chosen a section that isn't exactly appropriate or has misspelt the item then you'll miss it with your conventional search. It can work to your benefit - I picked up a couple of "Lemans" Maison Blanche stand tickets a couple of years ago as the rest of you PH lot were busy typing in "Le Mans" as a search.

If you look at the top LH corner of this ad you'll see that this advertiser has placed the ad under TVR "car parts" rather than "engine" - if you were to type in "TVR" and then chose the "engine and transmission" section it wouldn't appear !

The only option is to sit down with a cup of coffee, think of all possible alternatives and try them all - eg in your case TVR engine / S series engine / Cologne engine / Colone engine / Ford 2.8 engine etc etc. Takes a while but believe me it works...

The 2.8 is a Cologne. My engine and gear box are still up for grabs, I need the space so it needs to go soon. Not really bothered how much I get for it as long as I get something smile
